I have Crohns so it is perhaps different but I had a bad flare-up last May after dieting. I was in hospital for 2 weeks and was put back on Steriods (although I am off then again now). I believe this was caused by eating Ryvitas (ie too much fibre).
I do think its difficult to diet whilst having this kind of digestive system illness as I, for one, cannot eat much fruit or veg without causing stomach pains and a mini flare-up.
Has anyone got any diet tips for a Crohns sufferer who needs to lose at least a stone ?0 -
Here is an article on Low-Residue Diet from WebMD. I have done this type of diet when I was having flare ups. For those who can't eat raw fruits and veggies, I would suggest cooking them. Cooking them is easier for the digestive tract to break down foods without issues. http://www.webmd.com/ibd-crohns-disease/low-residue-diet-foods
I also do a Macrobiotic diet. It is another good diet. Some people with Crohn's and IBD/IBS might not be able to tolerate some of the foods but it is a clean eating plan. Another diet suggestion is the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. This is a eating plan my doc put me on. It is alot more restrictive than a gluten free diet. But during a flare up it is a very good eating plan to follow. It is another plan that takes out processed foods which is bad for us with gut issues. http://www.scdiet.org/0
