Night Time Snacking

Night-Time Snacking is definitely my weakness. I usually do fairly well during the day (as well as possible without the boyfriend becoming suspicious of restriction) but then when it comes to the night I just can't stop eating. It's not like I'm hungry or at least too hungry. I just tend to crave things a lot and I'm definitely an emotional/boredom eater. One of the main problems I have is that I'm wheelchair/bed bound so it's not like I can exercise, go out for a walk (or a roll), get up and do something. I just lie here in bed either watching TV, reading, or just doing random bits of nothing. I'm also AD/HD, OCD, have an anxiety disorder, depression, borderline personality disorder, and a few other things so it's easy for me to get bored with things and feel the need to be doing something with my hands or just something at all. I am an artist so sometimes I'll try and draw or paint or something like that but I can only do that for so long.

SO, my main question is, what are some things I could do, preferrably from bed, that can keep me from snacking/binging at night? If you can't think of anything, what about some quotes, reasons, or statistics as to why I shouldn't be snacking at night. Just anything. I could use all the help I can get.

Thank you so much for reading!

  • Do you eat enough during the day? I find that when I restrict during the day, I'm more likely to pick all night. When I have a good breakfast/lunch/snacks, I am able to say no more readily. I also think pre-planning a post-dinner snack helps me stay on track.

I tend to devote an hour or so writing my thoughts out from the day. I think this will help with the emotional piece you are recognizing. That way you can get your thoughts out and focus less on a craving. And I find I feel emotionally satisfied after, which for you sounds like why you would tend to eat to satisfy an emotion. I read other blogs online and write in my own.

If you do want a snack, try: tea and some celery with pb and raisins to mix up flavors/macros. I usually crave sugar at night and try to curb that with other options. if you don't want veggies at night, try a rice cake with pb, etc.

I agree with who ever said dont restrict during the day. Eat normal and then you wont feel like you have deprived yourself of anything. Then hopefully there wont be this urge. People tend to binge because they have restricted!

Is your boyfriend a support for you?Maybe you could talk to him when you get the urge.

This is so me - i restrict during the day (a) because I am so busy I don't usually get chance at work or deliberately don't have the food around me and (b) because i want to ensure i can save my calories up to the evening when i eat out of boredom/habit. after dinner i always want something and when we are sitting watching tv i will always want a snack! i usually have fruit, rice cakes or dried cereal but i need to get out of the habit of this and start eating 6 small meals a day - only that just daunts me! any help would be appreciated :)
