Hi guys,
I'm trying to give up drinking fizzy drinks.... not going to well so far!
I was wondering if anyone any tips or advice on giving up?
Also if anyone else is trying to give up, we can try and motivate each other to keep at it
Thanks for any advice :-)

I had to go cold turkey. If you are struggling a nice alternative is to put some squash in carbonated water if you miss the bubbles0

I switched to the fizzy flavoured water that you can buy in most supermarkets for about 60p for 1.5 litres and other low cal drinks like pepsi max. That way I got my fizzy pop fix without the hi calories.0

If you are trying to be healthy though diet and low cal drinks are WORSE for you then the full sugar versions as they are full of evil sweeteners. Better to avoid them all together!0

I gave up fizzy drinks two weeks ago, I had a glass of diet lemonade two days ago and had a horrible taste in my mouth for the whole next day. I drink mineral water now or tap!0

i went cold turkey. i actually looked at the bottle in the cupbord today and thought how much walking would it take to have a pint of that...the best advice i can give you is calculate how much it would take you to burn it walking, go for a walk and think is it realy worth it or am i going to bank those calories. good luck x0

This is what I would recommend too. Although, like with everything it should still be in moderation but up 1-2 glasses/cans per day would likely be ok. There is good evidence that suggests that approved artificial sweeteners are safe in what is termed 'general use' ie if you are drinking 2 litres of diet drink per day you may want to rethink things. You need to watch out for your teeth with the acidity though.
Oh also, no added sugar squash mixed with carbonated water is essentially the same as a diet fizzy drink so yeah, either one but I don't think one is better than the other.0 -
i completely cut out fizzy drinks 6 days ago, i now only drink water and the occasional hot chocolate, was easier to do than i actually thought it would be... only downside is that i took severe headaches from sugar withdrawal... but only lasted couple of days and feeling so much better for it... good luck to you anyway0

I decided to go cold turkey cos I'm a numbers person and I only used to drink 500ml of Tesco Cola (39cals per 100ml) each day so I was very dehydrated so I was gobsmacked when I worked it out that in just 1 year alone only drinking 500ml's a day a massive 73,000 Calorie's a year!!!! So I went cold turkey and only drink water now.
My husband can't quite do it - so he now drinks water, squash, and hot chocolate (only 40 calorie's - made with water and no sugar)
I'm now on day 11 of ONLY water!0
