Glucosamine

I recently (4 months ago) started running/jogging and am training for a half marathon this year with hopes of doing a full marathon next year. I've had some joint issues in the past from dancing and I was looking into a glucosamine supplement since I've seen many recommendations from long-distance runners. I was at Trader Joe's today looking at supplements and right on the bottle it says "glucosamine is derived from shellfish." Great. :grumble:

Any vegan runners out there have an alternative? I did pick up some flax oil just for the omega-3s but I'm not sure if that will help lubricate my joints too? I'm feeling pretty dumb even asking this question!

Alright I just found a "vegan" glucosamine supplement online. It's derived from corn... I'm not usually one to support the corn industry but if anyone has used it or another alternative I'd love reviews recommendations! thanks!

Edit: apparently it's non-GMO corn so I think I'm gonna try it!

Hi, I have been using corn derived Glucosamine for the last 7 or 8 years and I swear by it. I have arthritis in my hip (not sure if this link will work = https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=7666491239&set=a.4510106239.5316.683821239&type=3&theater

Twice in the last 7 years I have stopped taking it, once as a test and secondly as I never got round to ordering some more. On both occasions about a month after I stopped getting it, the pain in my hip increased considerably. While I am on Glucosamine the pain level in it never goes above a 2/10 wheras when I've stopped it is often a 4/10 and I frequently take pain killers for it.

I'm in the UK, but this is the product I have always used.

Swanson Vitamin company makes a vegan (they call it vegetarian) glucosamine and it comes in Veggie caps. I use it to keep knee pain in check as I am 60. I ride my mountain bike and put my knee through a lot.
