All I seem to do for the past two weeks is binge and purge
and binge and purge
or just eat and purge

I don't want to go back down that road again, ughh I just wish i could eat like a normal person.
Any tips to stop the cycle?
something that's worked for you maybe.

  • Are you currently in therapy? I find that talking it out with someone really helps, and finding the root cause of what's making you want to purge is necessary. That's my recommendation.

    Ahh no I'm not.
I wouldn't even know where to start in regards to getting one.
  • I know it sounds silly, but the best place to start is probably the phone book, even if they don't specialize in eating disorders, many of them are more than qualified to help. Ask them specifically what experience they have working with eating disorders and any other possible problems you might need help with working on. Most are really good about saying whether something is within their scope of competence and if they aren't they should not be doing what they are doing. You may even get better than someone with experience by asking the specific question because many if not all will refer you to someone if there is a specialist in your area. Good luck
  • psychologytoday.com is a good place as well. You can narrow the results by location, specialty, insurance type, etc. That's where I found my counselor, and she's fantastic. It's really important to find someone that you can trust and feel comfortable with, so don't be afraid to "shop around" a bit. It's the only thing that ended my cycle.

Extremely good advice, and definitely don't be afraid to ask them questions like you are interviewing them for a job, cause you are! I know it probably seems crazy, but 6-7 months ago I finished my Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Plan on going for my Masters in Social Work (Specializing in Self Injury and Eating Disorders) This go around has maybe shown me that I am not quite there yet, but none of my Doctors tell me that I can't do it, they just say I am not ready yet. We are all HUMAN even the professionals and I guess we all struggle with something at one time or another, we just have to know our scope of competence and our strengths and weaknesses and be honest about them. Good luck

Tracking works for me - it breaks the binge cycle having to enter it into the computer.I've had the rubber band on the wrist suggested, or going for a walk instead.

On the other hand binging is my bodies respnse to over-restriction - are you letting yourself digest enough?

Are you restricting that leads to binging? And definately need a therapist. look for someone who specializes in ED. ASk what their success rate is, what kind of therapy do they do and such..
  • I've found for me that it is strictly a control thing. Since I started logging my food on MFP to lose weight the healthy way, things have gotten much better. I realized that based on how MUCH 1200 calories seems to be, I really must have been restricting myself down between [REMOVED BY MOD - TRIGGERING] (plus huge workouts.) You eventually cant handle it mentally and lose control.

However, once I set a realistic goal, I've found creative ways to eat the foods I love in the right amounts. Seeing it on a tracker makes me feel accountable and less out of control.

I have been through those cycles for months at a time! Something that can stop me in my tracks before a binge (usually) is if I actaully LOOK at the calorie content on what I'm about to eat. chances are if i see that I won't go through with it or at least my binge won't be as severe.
