If you find something what do you do? Does it depend on where you are? Does it depend on what you find? If it's money, does it depend on the amount?
Let's say you're at the gym and find $10? $100? a phone? an ipod?

I would let the person at the front desk know that I found something without describing it, and ask that if anyone calls in saying they lost something to give them my info.
Years and years ago I lived in MI. I walked out of the mall one slushy, grey Nov day with my head down against the wind. I saw something sparkle on the ground and picked it up. It was a 1/2 ct diamond solitare ring. I contacted the police and told them I found a ring. They suggested I hold onto it and watch the lost/found ads in the paper. They also took my info and said if anyone called in they'd pass it along to me. They made it clear that I should not take out an ad sayin that I found a piece of jewelry because I'd be innundated with calls from scammers trying to guess what it was. Since it was a simple diamond solitare it would be pretty easy to guess.
I never did see any ad and the police never heard from anyone either. I ended up keeping it and when hubby and I got engaged I had it remounted and used it as my engagement ring.0 -
Couple months ago I rolled into my US Bank on my bike. It was on a Sunday and the lot was deserted. I was on my way to meet my buddies for a ride and needed some "*kitten* you" money. There was one van in front of the ATM's. A gal was on on ATM. I walked up to the second ATM and did my transactions, not paying attention to here except periperally. She stepped away from the machine and got in the passenger side of the van and they pulled away. I finished up. Grabbed my card, cash and receipt and started to leave. Heard a series of beeps coming from the other ATM. The young ladies' Visa was sticking out of the ATM. I snatched it quickly and turned towards the direction the van went. It was clear across the lot and ready to turn left onto a main street. I started shouting and waving my arms. Luckily, the driver glanced my way. I could see them both look at me, look at each other, look downwards (I assume into their purses) and then back up, turn around and drive back.
They were very thankful. It was obvious to me that they couldn't believe someone returned it. I suppose I could have bought a couple rounds at the local strip club for my buddies, but that ain't right.0 -
I have found sums of money on may occasions, ranging from $20 to $300 left in an ATM machine. On every occasion I contacted customer service or put up a sign just stating that I had found a sum of money and to contact me if you think it's yours. I've never ever gotten a response, and I waited a year the time I found $300 in an ATM. It was one of those random ATMs that isn't affiliated with any bank. I put up a sign with my phone number. I called the police but they weren't concerned over $300 and told me to do what I wanted. So I put it in my savings account and saved it for one year. When I hadn't had a single response, I made an extra payment on my student loan.0

It depends. If I find money on the ground, well I take it. It's hard telling who that ever belonged to. If I find something at a business or restaurant I will turn it into the manager.0
