BOYCOTT OF GIRL SCOUT COOKIES -

Some of you may have heard in the news over the last week that there has been a push in the US, spearheaded by a 13 year old in California, to boycott the sales of Girl Scout Cookies because of the decision, made by the Girl Scouts of Colorado, to allow a 7 year old transgendered child to join a local Girl Scout Troop. Here is a HuffPost article about it:

What are you thoughts?

  • It always breaks my heart to see children acting out the hatred of their parents. When will it stop? And furthermore, how can any good parent be ok with teaching hate?

Its something i dont think i will ever understand.

However, i must say...good for the girl scouts!! I am so surprised they allowed her to join but this will open so many doors. Kudos to them and their courage to stand up for what is right.

    As did I!!

There are people that have come out and said what a bad decision the Girl Scouts of Colorado made, and that it goes against what they stand for, and above all no longer keeps the girls in this particular troop safe.

I don't see that AT ALL! I don't see how allowing a 7 y/o boy, who identifies as a girl, into the troop threatens any one, in any way. It may threaten their Christian sensibilities, but seriously - who is this hurting?! I don't understand how the overwhelmingly positive sides to this story are getting overlooked. Because this child identifies as a girl, that's how I will refer to her....This little girl is being shown at a very early age just how accepting her peers, and those around her can be. I think she's extremely lucky, as not many ADULTS in the same position can say. I can't imagine viewing her as a threat, of any kind, to her troop or anyone around her. I commend the scouts in that troop, their parents and the Girl Scouts of Colorado for being so accepting of this little girl, and allowing her to feel this community support!

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to say. I know that everyone has the right to believe whatever they'd like to, but it makes me so sad that all of these racists and sexists and homophobes are raising their children to be just as narrow-minded as they are. They disguise their hatred for those unlike themselves as 'good values' and brainwash their children.

I have a new respect for the Girl Scouts. I don't usually buy from them, but this year, if I come across anyone selling cookies, I will absolutely buy a few boxes... and feed them to my skinny friends.

Being from Colorado...I was especially proud of this story (about allowing her in) and even more determined to purchase cookies. I ended up only bringing two boxes into the house and the rest are being donated to troops overseas.
