Just need to vent for a minute, since you folks "get it" and probably live it.

We're having a three-day long meeting at work. Normally, with these types of meetings, we work through lunch and bring food in. I can always find a GF option... No problem. Today's meeting happens to coincide with a 10-year anniversary party, so they brought pizza in. Naturally, I was outvoted as far as whether we were ordering in or enjoying some of the pizza.

I usually pack my lunch but happened to have a loaf of the Udi's bread in the freezer. They have single serve peanut butter and jelly containers, like you'd find at a diner. So while everyone is eating pizza, I've got a crappy PBJ and it's going to be a loooonnng day.

I work full-time and have an evening class tonight, so it's going to be a long day.

MEH. Just meh.

And then they brought out a buttercream sheet cake. I think the moral of the story is that when the voice tells you to pack the lunch bag, (like I almost always do), pack the ****ing lunch bag.

That reminds me, I have to call my son's small private school who is having a "winter social" because I don't like spending 40 dollars for a meal that my celiac vegatarian teen can't eat one spec of.

That is kind of mean actaully. It happens as my work too. I work by the hour so leave 5 to 10 minutes early that I stated so I comp myself for the food I have to provide myself.

Ask for a small amout of "comp" money. Buy some really exellent gluten free corn chips, sour cream, shreaded mexican cheese, and quality salsa. Nuke cheese and chips for 30 seconds. Add dollop of salsa and sour cream. Then you've got party food that won't make you feel neglected.

Can you run out for a quick trip to the store or restaurant? They might lawfully have to let you.

I totally understand...vent away!!! We usually get pizza or catfish catered up here and there is rarely anything I can eat so I just stick to my veggies or whatever I brought for the day. I just hate the temptation!!!

But it is WAY worse for my son :(
It seems like every reward is food based. Ice cream parties for good behavior, pizza hut coupons for reading a book every night, pizza and candy parties during the holidays, gift certificate for the purple cow (a hamburger place) for A Honor roll....I hate for him to feel left out. I try to bring him similar foods, but he is always the one eating something different! Sometimes he is ashamed to eat his food because it is so different than the crap they are feeding in the cafeteria! He is only 5 years old for crying out loud...who cares if the other kids think his food is gross as long as he likes it?

Sorry...I haven't vented on that one in a while! (At least to people that understand)

I had the client follow me to the other office. I tried to get him to follow one of the others, but my car has out-of-state plates and was supposidly easier to follow. **eye roll**

I don't usually complain about the whole GF thing, but man. Today was just not the right day for it, especially since I was told that we'd be ordering in... Glad I have you guys to vent to.

The food as a reward thing's gotta stink for your kid. Wow. I can't believe they still do that kind of stuff...

I HATE it when that happens. It certainly does not seem fair. Thankfully, when my friends were having a party for their birthdays (of course, with pizza!) they ordered me a GF pizza so I was able to enjoy at least some thing lol but there are a lot of times where I go to parties or meetings and they do not take in to consideration that I'm a Celiac. At times, I even have people tell me "Just have it, this one time won't hurt you." .. Obviously I get snarky after that lol
