Motivation to Move

Hi...I'm trying to figure how to get myself motivated to get up and exercise. You would think that the fact that I could potentially suffer from any number of things.....diabetic amputation, loss of eye sight, loss of mobility, and so much more...would make it easy for me to make the decision to get up and go. I am currently disabled with a back injury and my left leg and foot are partially numb. Walking is difficult. EX: If I go to Walmart or Target, and using a shopping cart for stability, by the time I get to the back of the store, my left foot is totally numb and I begin tripping or dragging my foot.

Can anyone give me some ideas for exercise...and tell me how you motivate yourself if you are 100lbs overweight. Thanks!

Have you talked to your doctor? Perhaps they can refer you to a physical therapist or something to help you put together a plan that works given your limitations. Otherwise, I've heard some people who are disabled and obese will start exercising simply by sitting down and standing up as many times as they can without hurting themselves.

I can't help you with the motivation part, unfortunately - I'm lacking in that arena as well.
  • My end goal is my motivation. As for daily motivation, I just started one day at a time and built a routine. Day 1 I walked instead of sitting at my desk. Day 2 I played a dance game with my daughter, Day 3 I went to the Gym straight after work so I couldn't make excuses. Now I walk 5 days a week at work. Go to the gym 2 days after work and then Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Find an activity you like to do and do it. Little bit at a time. 3 weeks ago I couldn't get half way around the block with out major pain. Now I can walk more that a mile. Look on the internet for chair exercises, or limited mobility exercises. Anything to get you started. it doesn't have to be much in the beginning. JUST MOVE!

Eat better, move more! Our journey is long but worth it.
