After 30 years of giving passengers spiritual words to reflect on while they eat their meals, Alaska Airlines is retiring the prayer cards from their meal trays.

Airline spokeswoman Bobbie Egan says the decision was made after hearing from customers who preferred not to mix religion with transportation.

If their customers don't want them, why spend the $$ on them? Air fare is expensive. I don't care about a prayer card on a flight.

If you want to reflect on a flight bring your own material, just like you have to bring your own food now or pay for crap snacks on many flights.

Wait a min. You get meals on their flights still?

    Sorry.

I didn't know they did that, ever. I don't think I would have been a big fan of that, especially with how much it costs to fly these days, glad they stopped.

Honestly if the meal was free even I (<--imagine this in bold) would take a prayer card. Crazy airline charges.

I was raised on airline food. I'd kill for one of those dry little sandwiches and some peanuts right now.

Not meals, snacks if you're lucky. I think 1st class still gets meals, but I wouldn't know as I ride coach :ohwell:

Whether or not you get meals depends on the duration of your flight.

When we flew to Italy this summer -- esp on the way back-- it seemed like they fed us continuously. It was hard to go to the bathroom because it seem like the aisle was always blocked with the food carts.

I only rode 1st class once, and it was as an "apology" since the airline had screwed up my tickets and flight schedule so badly, they felt it was all they could do. The entire flight was only 40 minutes, though, so we didn't get a meal, and I honestly don't know if longer flights got them. I got a free can of Coke, though.

As for the prayer cards, I have no problem with them being pulled. It's that company's decision to do it.

Me on an airplane> :frown: :ohwell:

I took 2 of the highest strength Xanax for a 70 min flight to Kansas for work last summer. The first year I was inconsolable. This year, even with the two Xanax, I had a full blown panic attack. I told my boss I'll pay for my own train ticket this year...

Forget the prayer cards, I've never even seen them!

It's funny the things they will voluntarily spend money on but not on other things that matter. I guess people wouldn't pay the extra charge for a prayer card the way they do their luggage. From an economical standpoint it makes sense they'd stop - although it seems as if the cost wasn't the issue and it likely is negligible.

Should I hold off on the Tickets to Sri Lanka in May? Should we plan a road trip instead?

If we can get to Sri Lanka by boat, I'm down! I will drive across America to get to you and then we can set sail from the West Coast.

Not sure there is a cruise from West Coast to Sri Lanka. This is not the first time that reality has dashed my fantasies.
