I went to a boxing class yesterday evening for the first time and i am a little sore today from all of the exercise:(
I went swimming this morning and burned 270 calories...There is another boxing class tonight that i really wanna go to but im afraid i will hurt myself if i am sore like i am...Any opinions? The class is pretty intense

thanks:)

  • Hi,

Go you with the bxing class! I am not that brave yet - just wastching a class for 5 mins totally tires me out!

Anyway, I read that it is best to leave excercise for a day or 2 if you are sore so that your body can fully recover. When I first started bodybalance class, I really hurt for days after but I found that after week 2, I was not sore at all the next day ( I went 2 times a week in week 1 and then 3 times in week 2.)

It might also help in the beginning to do a stretch and 10 min warm up on a cross trainer if you can before hand so that you your muscles are properly warmed up - that should help too.

Hope that helps and good luck xx
  • I don't know what the 'right' answer is, but when i have been sore, I have gone and worked out again, and felt sooooo much better. It's like warming up the muscles soothed them some how.

Not sure if that's what you are supposed to do, but it helped me.

Maybe do something less intense, but something that warms up your muscles?
  • You should always just listen to your body. If you're overdoing it you will feel it. From experience I have pushed myself when my calories weren't high enough and I was dealing with other stress and not resting enough and this had consequences. But normally I just work out anyways and the soreness will go away.

It depends on what kind of sore, I think. If you have been lifting heavy weights it is best to take a rest day in between (you can still do cardio etc) if it is more just a tired muscle ache than a stressed musle ache then it can actually really help to work through that - at least for me.
