Copyright law outdated?

I just came across this opinion piece by William Patry about copyright - as someone who works with copyright issues on an almost daily basis, I feel much the same way (and for my own work, I license everything with Creative Commons).

Do you think the disadvantages he mentioned about the multiple extensions of time outweigh the ongoing protection of creative works? Other thoughts? Any personal dealings with copyright issues?

I think Disney-esque paranoia needs to stop on this front.
