Exercise

What do you guys do for exercise? Do you exercise daily?

I read that exercising daily really helps with the symptoms even if you don't lose weight. So I want to really give it a try.

  • Exercise DOES help with the symptoms. I will say in the past my doctor has told me to at least walk 30 minutes everyday. I lost 30pounds in 3 months by walking daily and cutting out bread and cutting back on sugar. I was also on Metformin.

Now- I try to exercise daily. My goal is 5 days out of 7. I've been working out 4 days a week and trying to do more. For me, I don't notice a difference right away. The symptoms slowly improve. My acne is gone and as far as hirutism- less hair is growing. I have more energy and my mood seems to be improving. Oh, and my periods are finally coming back. On a typical day I will get in 30-60 minutes of cardio and I also like to use the weight machines (usually around 30 minutes).

If I eat following an IR diet & exercise, I have noticed I gain energy. I have lost the most weight in the past by incorporating strength training into at least 2-3 workouts a week. Last Saturday I tried Zumba for the first time. I have never had so much fun exercising!!

I agree! I started exercising 5-6 times a week about 2.5 months ago (a minimum of 30 minutes of walking, but I generally do more than that). I usually have a very light period once a year or so, but now they're starting to come back. I just had my second one and it's a little heavier than the last one. They are lasting several days, but I think things are starting to improve.

I'm not sure if there's been any improvement on the hirsutism yet... I get laser hair removal treatments so... hard to say.

However, exercising, more than anything, has been the most effective way for me to lose weight! I count my calories, too, but even slight cheat days don't matter much when I'm exercising. :D

I am working out 4 - 6 times a week, usually with 45 minutes of cardio and weight training 2x per week. Which is an increase from 2 x per week with a trainer started last February. I have not had any weight loss after 12 weeks with the new program, but am still plugging away.

That being said, I did stop drinking diet soda / crystal light about 4 weeks ago and got my first cycle without med in more than 3 years. I'll take that as progress going on somewhere in my body.

Exercise has greatly helped my symptoms... i've started having regular periods, my energy levels are better, my hormone levels are getting better, and overall I just feel healthier... I haven't lost any weight, but I know that will come... I just have to have patience! :-)

I just started excersizing and haven't had the chance to be consistant. DH, DD & I Joined the gym a week ago Sunday. Then my rents showed up for a surprise visit last weekend. The few days I did get to work out, triggered my period. I try and do 20 minutes on the bike and some circuit machines. I am trying to adjust my schedule with the less busy times at the gym. There are people that just sit on the circuit machines texting. I have my first workout with a personal trainer tonight. Hopefully it goes well. I am not one that stands for much of being told what to do in a certain "tone". When I was being introduced to a few of the trainers, one girl actually said things like, which knee do you have problems with (None), well you better figure out how to do this quick bacause it is only a matter of minutes before it happens, you could die ya know. She is sooooo lucky I didn't break her little neck! :explode:

Wow! I'm so glad my trainer isn't like that! Hopefully your trainer will be nice and actually try to teach you the right technique. And why would she assume you have knee problems? The first time I met with mine she just asked if I had any knee problems so that I don't end up with an injury but it seems like she is doing it in a stereotypical way. Well if you end up with her I would definitely be asking for a different trainer!

I was doing Zumba toning (I LOVE any kind of Zumba) and ended up with bursitis in my shoulder. So I was put on Zumba restriction while I did therapy for 12 weeks. Not really allowed to do much weightlifting until it is completely healed. After therapy I went back to regular Zumba and decided to try 30 Day Shred and totally pissed off my disc I herniated 6 years ago. You would think it would be happy I took 70 pounds of pressure off of it...but alas, I am not able to do much exercise right now. I'm going to my doctor tomorrow because I'm getting irritated I can't work out. My point is - be careful. I pushed through the pain in Zumba because I thought I was toning. Shooting pain is not normal apparently :)
