I've been using the Free Step game and counting it as what mfp says... But I feel I'm getting far more exercise. I have it on at the maximum pace, so I wonder if that accounts for the difference.

I'd be interested in what ppl say as well if they have a HRM.

I don't and I often think I"m not using as much energy as what they say. I don't eat all my exercise calories because of it. The only one I think might be right is the marching, for some reason I seem to get really good workout with that. ( advanced one). I've started using weights for free step now and feel the cal burn is prob closer. Without a HRM though no way of knowing. I love my WII Fit though.

If you're playing with Wii Fit Plus, there's a built in calorie tracker. DEFINITELY worth going to Plus if you're using it frequently! There's more exercises, you can customize a yoga/strength routine, and they added a bunch of calculators. Obviously, I'm a big fan. ;)

just realised you said you use the MFP calorie burn calculation.
I use the one from Wii Fit itself not the one on MFP. I enter it into MFP.
    Sorry if I confused things.

I used my HRM on my wii fit today these are my results:

    10 mins hoola hoop
    HRM 40 cals
    wii 32 cals
    mfp 30 cals

    10 mins rhythm boxing
    HRM 37 cals
    wii 56 cals
    mfp 33cals

    10 mins free step
    HRM 91 cals
    wii 37 cals
    mfp 31 cals

Quite varied results! I put lots of effort into free step including using hand weights.
    I am 5ft, and currently weigh 152lbs

I am not sure who is right on this issue but I use the Wii Fit Plus calorie counter for all of my exercises. I do 1150 steps of free step in 10 minutes and lift a 5# dumbbell over my head (alternating arms) every 4 steps - I add 10 minutes at level 3 to my log every time I do this. I then convert everything on MFP to my Wii calories. You should see what MFP gives me for rowing - almost twice what I get at level 5 on the Wii which is slightly higher than my ERG gives me (of course it has no idea what I weigh, etc.) Based on your size and weight compared to mine I would say the Wii is fairly consistent even if it is wrong. I think the best thing to do is to pick one method of calculating and stick to it. I spend most of my time on the Wii so that is what I am using - at least it is keeping me consistent and I am losing weight which is all that matters in the long run. I am going to join a local gym to add weight training to my weekly routine (want to get tone) and have no idea how to add this in to the mix......any ideas?

gosh, this really mixes it up doesn't it?
I 'm just going to stick with the Wii until I can get a HRM then use it for everything.

    Thanks for that :)

I am maintaining, not losing, so underestimating exercise calories isn't particularly positive any more.

I looked at the difference between an elliptical, treadmill and stationary bike vs. the Wii and MFP today. The Wii cal burn (assuming 5 mets for the elliptical and stationary bike and 3 mets for the treadmill) was much closer, although a tad higher, than the machines themselves (which are professional level so should be close). MFP was considerably higher on all of them. I am going to keep converting everything to Wii numbers - I think the slightly higher number is because the Wii knows my weight, age, etc. If I can figure out how to program the elliptical (and am crazy enough to get back on it :) I will try to get a real comparison for us.
