Set fire to the Rain

Three weeks ago today, a relationship ended between my boyfriend and I after 10 months. It was a mutual agreement and understanding; however the pain was still just as real. So I recently listened to this song all the way thru, and I'm curious if there is anyone else finds it comforting or do you think she is being ugly? I guess what I'm asking is what do the words to the song mean to you?

"Set Fire To The Rain"

I let it fall, my heart,
And as it fell you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me

My hands, they're strong
But my knees were far too weak
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet

But there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew.
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true,
And the games you play
You would always win, always win.

[Chorus:]
But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!

When I lay with you
I could stay there
Close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together
Nothing is better

'Cause there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew,
All the things you'd say,
They were never true, never true,
And the games you play
You would always win, always win.

[Chorus:]
But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Where it felt something die
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time!

Sometimes I wake up by the door,
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now when we're already over
I can't help myself from looking for you.

[Chorus:]
I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames
Where it felt something die
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time, oh, ohhhh!

Oh noooo
Let it burn
Oh oh ohhhh
Let it burn
Oh oh ohhhh
Let it burn
Oh oh ohhhh

Although I grew up in the 80's, I have to admit, I've never listened to the words of that song. I did look up the lyrics though....Wow!!

I think it's about letting go of what you had, even though you think you might want it back later.

Reminds me of Best I Ever Had by Vertical Horizon.

"Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)"

    So you sailed away
    Into a grey sky morning
    Now I'm here to stay
    Love can be so boring

    Nothing's quite the same now
I just say your name now

    [Chorus]
    But it's not so bad
You're only the best I ever had
    You don't want me back
You're just the best I ever had

    So you stole my world
    Now I'm just a phony
    Remembering the girl
    Leaves me down and lonely

    Send it in a letter
    Make yourself feel better

    [Chorus]
    But it's not so bad
You're only the best I ever had
    You don't need me back
You're just the best I ever had

And it may take some time to
    Patch me up inside
    But I can't take it so I
    Run away and hide
And I may find in time that
    You were always right
    You're always right

    So you sailed away
    Into a grey sky morning
    Now I'm here to stay
    Love can be so boring

    What was it you wanted
    Could it be I'm haunted

    [Chorus]
    But it's not so bad
You're only the best I ever had
    I don't want you back
You're just the best I ever had
    The best I ever had
    The best I ever

Good one! I got one of those too. He was the best, and we had a great relationship. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Wow one of the few women I know that haven't. I recommend you listen to the whole thing. Best complete ablum out recently in years. Only song I don't like is Rolling in the Deep mainly because it is so over played.
