left/stopped a weight loss program or group because they expected you to be a weight that you knew was too low for you 1) to get to and/or 2) maintain?

Although I think Weight Watchers is a sound program it happened to me here. I lost 125 pounds with them over 10 years ago, but the highest weight I "could" be was too low for me to maintain (I then regained all the weight - so sad). I reached out to my doctor to no avail. I guess it was just one of those life lessons

(Plus I didn't like equating weight with money -- aka: pay until you lose and pay if you are "over") and for me I'd rather count calories like on MFP than points - it just seems to be more sustainable, at least for me, in the long term)

That is why I am very happy to have found this group to find women who are approximately my height and with weight loss goals similar to mine.

I learned I am large framed thanks to the threads (I have a 7.5 inch wrist, and wear a 11 or 12 WW shoe) and that has helped put things into perspective for me and pick an appropriate goal weight. Thanks so much for clearly showing me I'm not the only fabulous tall lady out there losing weight!

I am thrilled that you have found this group so helpful! It is truly a beautiful thing when you can be comfortable in your own skin. Losing weight is about getting/being healthy, not a specific number on the scale! We are happy to have you in our wonderful group of Glamazons! I know youre new to the group, but like I said in the bikini group thread, "Please don't be intimidated by our awesomeness!" You can be just as awesome, and we will support you along the way! Welcome!

And yes, I think WW is a little off myself. I never used it, but I couldnt wrap my mind around paying for something you could do for free. But thats the super-motivated athlete in me talking. I know alot of people need the extra push...

Thanks for the welcome. I am looking forward to contributing to the group.

Anyone looking to add me as a MFP friend feel free.

    Have a good day.

I have done WW a couple times too with some success but I never loved it like I do MFP. It just simpler and more friendly. I like the groups (like this one!). I hope it works for you! Good luck!! P.S. I too wear a size 11/12 shoe. :)

I've done ww too, and LOVE that MFP is free!!! ( never got to the maintenance point, though, so I never had the free/pay if you're over experience).

Oh absolutely. I am with you on the free thing. I couldn't stomach the idea of paying for a program again. I've found the program, apps, and support are great on MFP.

Most of these weight range charts are iffy at best, there are way too many variables in the human body, frame, where you carry the weight etc. I know shortie girl who is at the lower end of her "perfect" weight range yet she cannot shift weight from her *kitten* & thighs, her stomach is practically concave, she will look ill if she loses anymore, she just happens to have very thick thighs & bum, extreme pear shape & bar surgery she will never have slim thighs or legs. At 6ft I'm at still in the overweight range yet have slim leg, thighs & arms, my weight is in my belly. I "could" stop now at just over 200lbs if it weren't for the belly fat & am doing alot of strength & muscle building in my arms & legs so they wont look like twigs when I get to my target (175).

I personally don't take the number too seriously, more a vague idea of where I think I will go but 18 months ago was at 198lbs & felt & looked really good, belly was still flabby but I wasn't exercising then so maybe in 10lbs I will review my final goal again.

One website suggested I should be 140lbs!!!. If you saw me you would understand that would be verging on concentration camp chic. The idea of me ever weighing so little actually makes me feel a bit ill thinking of how anorexic I would look. :embarassed:

I havent left a weight programme but my mother (at 5"7) is always shocked at how much i weigh and tells me i should weigh less. At the moment i weight 175lbs but did weight about 170 over the summer, i liked being that weight and was much more toned so was smaller because of that.
Everyone has different body shapes, i appreciate that BMI doesn't take this into account but i think it is pretty ok in terms of occasionally have a check to see where you are but that also needs to be aligned with how you look and feel in yourself about your weight. Everyone is different.
I got sick over NYW and ended up in hospital (just a D&V bug) and lost 15lbs in 3 days, obviously i gained that all back. I looked thin but still squishy. I'd rather weigh more and be more toned. It's totally up to you and how you feel.

I think WW is a bit odd along with slimming world. My work colleagues are doing SW and i think the weight targets they have been given are very low. Looking at the BMI chart it would put them at around 20....Just my two cents! or pence as i'm british!

This happened with me with WW, and also, I am a tall lady too! I am 6 foot tall :)

I originally joined WW with the intention of losing 20-25lbs and to get healthy, however my team leader told me I could stand to lose 40lbs. After I lost a stone (14lbs) I felt a whole lot healthier and felt better about myself, so I begrudged paying the monthly subscription and just quit. Within just 2 weeks I gained all of my weight back plus 9 pounds, after it taking 4 months to lose. This time I am starting again, and I will get there by myself!!!

My mom is 5'11" and does WW. Her goal there is insanely low. Her doctor wrote her a note increasing her goal weight by 15 pounds. That's much better for her frame.

I'm not a WW fan. I know it works for some, but I'd much rather count calories and focus on overall nutrition than abide by some proprietary formula that pushes branded convenience foods.

I think you have a very good take on things. I am going to keep my eyes open and decide for myself where I feel the most comfortable and look the best. Thanks for your comment.

I can totally understand others being chocked about weight. I really don't divulge that to many people, but in the few instances I have they could not believe it. I've mostly avoided talking about weight because everyone seems to have to add their opinion and that person is generally half my height! : )

I am sorry that you went through this. However, I went through a similar thing. I just felt so uncomfortable...like I was being forced to do something I knew wasn't right for me. I have no doubt that you'll get there. You are doing it on your terms and that is always best!

I am with you. I like counting the calories much better. It is just more real world -- and I like that.

I tried to get a doctor's note, but he didn't want to write it for me. I was just a kid, so I didn't argue, but today I would have raised hell!
