Since Sibohah is the leader of the Irish Coven and her talent is manipulating outcomes through positive thinking, I thought I'd create a spot to put out some positive thoughts. It could be a saying or quote that inspires you or something personal like a NSV or encouraging words you are enjoying.
Today I saw a thread that walking actually burns more fat than running. That made me feel a lot better about the days I can only squeeze in a walk.

Here is what one poster said:
Quoting Jillian Michaels (ok, paraphrasing) - If you walk for 30 minutes and burn 100 calories, you would burn 80 calories of fat and 20 calories of carbohydrate, or 80% fat. If you RUN for 30 minutes you would burn 300 calories, 33% from fat, or 100 calories. So still more fat than the walk and also another 200 of carbs!
So, running burns more calories, but walking burns a higher % of fat.
NSV -- my new size 10 pants I bought after Christmas (which were snug at the time) are baggy!!!!!

Today my positive thinking was that I could get through doing both walking on the track/treadmill, and then go do a 60 minute hydro pilates class. I kept telling myself that I could do it, and I did, and in fact, burned more calories than I had been logging for the PIlates class. I took my hrm to the pool with me & left it with my shoes, and it turned out that according to that, I had been logging about half the actual calories burned.
I will add that this also used my vamp power of outcome manipulation, because I had been wanting to be able to walk further without becoming bored and/or changing my ipod playlists every day. I bought the iPod app Zombies, Run, and it plays your own playlists, but breaks in with different tasks you are imagining you need to do, all while zombies are chasing you. Its almost war of the worlds-ish, the beginning sounds like an actual tower to airplane conversation0 -
My positive thinking today was related to exercise. I was thinking about making today a rest day since I was so flippin' sore and had pretty much talked myself into it. Then I came home from work and was starving and ate a huge dinner. I told myself it would be okay to be over on calories a bit. But then I kicked myself in the butt, said YOU CAN DO THIS, and grabbed my HRM and hand weights. Every time I wanted to quit I chanted "YOU CAN DO THIS". I ate almost all of my exercise calories back, but that's okay. I came in under calories AND I hit 3 days in a row with some form of exercise. :happy:0

Some of you who are on my friends list have heard this already, so I apologize for that.
Saturday I was to run my 2nd 5k this year. Since my mom has been in the hospital I kind of blew it. I didn't have time to run, ate junk and gained several pounds. I was thinking about not even showing up to the race. Thankfully the cheapskate in me won out. I already paid for the race and dangit, I wanted my shirt. I figured I could run a bit and walk as much as I needed. There are always walkers there and it would be fine.
Once the race got started I could really feel how out of shape I was but I just kept moving. The more I moved the easier it got. The easier it got the more I enjoyed it. I was able to finish the race without slowing at all. My time was about 45 seconds slower than last race but the last mile was totally against the wind and everyone was slower.
As a bonus I encouraged another runner who had stopped to catch her breath. I patted her on her shoulder and said, "You can do it, we are almost there". Well she did do it, she ran ahead of me and about 3 other people, darn her. LOL!
As I neared the finish line I faintly heard my name being shouted. Then I saw a family I know from church cheering me on. It was very nice to have the encouragement. It made me feel good to know I had encouraged someone I don't even know.0 -

I know I shouldn't do it, but I weigh myself every day. Then, I watch my weigh spin round and round, and it makes me crazy.
But
I love that I also get weighed once a month at Curves because that gives me the long view. Yes, I lost 4 pounds last month, and the month before. And, yes, my enthusiasm is rekindled.
I also love that my daughter said I was the MFP poster child, lol.
So overall, I had a very positive weekend.
Here is my positive thought for the week.
“Fear less, hope more; Eat less, chew more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Love more, and all good things will be yours”

I was in a Dr. Seuss mood today, and really liked this particular quote. just a reminder that we have the power to do anything we set our minds to!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself, any direction you choose.

I found a great quote in the fitness section of pinterest today. "Do more of what makes you happy" I took advantage of this today by spending time walking & chatting with a friend I hadn't seen in a while, then going to the Natatorium & getting back to my favorite water walking class. I hadn't attended a class in a month or so, but I found myself able to keep up, and despite thinking the instructor was trying to kill me, got through the class & then went for another walk. Of course, I'll be good with the positive thinking this week because I'm off work, and won't have to deal with the people/place who completely drain all the positivity out of me0

Love it! And it looks so good next to your fully-equipped recumbant bike! :laugh:0 -

Maybe that quote should also say, "Do less of what makes you unhappy." You know, like going to work. LOL0 -
Here is my suggestion for this week's positive thinking. I can't take credit, it came from my Larry Winget e-mail subscription!
How To Deal With Jerks©
1. Keep things in perspective. Remember that sometimes you are a jerk too!
2. You can’t change the way other people are; you can only change the way you respond to them. So why drive yourself crazy trying to fix a jerk that doesn’t want to be fixed or doesn’t know they need to be fixed? You aren’t going to be able to any way so save yourself the frustration!
3. Know that it’s rarely personal. Jerks don’t single you out to be a jerk to, it’s just who they are and has little to do with anyone else.
4. Forgive them. Most of them have had years of training at being a jerk and it’s hard for them to be anything else.
5. Be more understanding. Good people can have bad days.
6. Don’t give a jerk the power to ruin your day – they’re jerks, remember? Don’t reduce yourself to their level.
7. Be nice to them. Jerks hate that! Seriously, if you want to drive a jerk totally crazy, try being nice. Bonus: you might just shock them into better behavior.
8. Know that most people aren’t really jerks; they just act in jerky ways. Deep down, I think most people are good folks but work really hard covering it up.
9. If you have had it with them and are unwilling to put up their jerky ways, avoid the jerk as best you can. Divorce them, stop seeing them, stop calling them or going out with them. I’m amazed at people who willingly hang around jerks not realizing that it’s a choice.
10. If you are going to attack, attack the behavior, not the person.0 -
I got a HUGE dose of positive thinking from a post by the "Lost 100 Pounds" group. It is full of tips, but most of all, it makes you feel like you CAN do this thing.
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/529676-more-than-100lbs-loss-multiple-members-with-pics-and-advic
A few I liked:
1) patience, patience, patience
2) the scales is not your friend
3) never give up
4) keep negative emotions out of it
5) don't kill yourself in the gym or with diet
The pictures are amazing. Enjoy!0 -
Positive thinking this week once again is partly from a pin I had on my fitness board on pinterest this week. The first one just said "One pound at a time" I know that I'm frequently guilty of forgetting that I only put it on one at a time, so that's how it has to come back off.
Then I had these two images:
I love Marilyn Monroe, so I had to save this one. It was captioned "Who said curves weren't sexy"
I don't know if it counts or not, but I'm still smiling after friday night. Proof of the reason to smile is in my icon photo0 -
Now here is the real reason to maintain a positive attitude.
“A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.”
