Haha. That's my motto right now. Anyone else fighting for free time? I even feel like I want to quit raiding so I can work out more. I know. So weird.

I make sure to go to the gym before going home/hotel at the end of the day to avoid issues just like this. I find once I am in the house for 5 minutes I don't go out for the gym or anything nearly as much.

This, definitely. I get everything done before I log on for the night. I HAVE to, or else I won't get stuff done. Thankfully my raids start super late, so I have lots of time after work to get stuff done.

Do you play on Fitocracy? You get to level up with workouts. No gear grinding required :)

if you wear purple or orange workout gear your exercises are much easier to do. :)

WoW is my reward for working out. It's a lot better than rewarding myself with food.

Me and my roommate take turns playing (Mass Effect right now). So when she's playing, I watch her and do a free run/step on Wii Fit.

I wouldn't know... I'm pretty sure the last time I was "skinny" was at age 15 during wrestling season in high school. :P

The feeling of our main healer going down in the first minuet on our 10 man saurfang and me solo healing the whole fight in the first weeks of Icecrown's release, and then getting promoted to raid leader because of it (among other things) felt pretty good, but I wouldn't dare tell anyone in the real world, people don't know I'm a huge nerd.

But when I recently dead-lifted 455 pounds and squatted 335 pounds the feeling was the same, and got to brag to all my real life friends about it.

Its a trade off to me, both take a lot of time and dedication to be good at, but one isn't a time waste.

Once again you show your wisdom! Both can be positives towards life...it is just a matter of fitting them in properly

So the reason I actually started this topic is -- I really wanted to quit raiding yesterday. It makes it really hard for me to fit in all the work I want to do because it takes anything but very short bouts of exercise off the table 2 days a week.

And I thought to myself, dang how weird is that. Its not like I don't still like video games. But I *really* like being not-fat and I really like working on the fitness goals I'm working on and instead of thinking to myself "oh well, i'll just push that stuff off" I thought "maybe I should quit raiding..."

AD - do you sleep much per night? Work fulltime? how do you squeeze in everything? I guess if I didn't want to run I wouldn't have any issues just fitting in my lifting.

I quit raiding. I had been raiding 3 days a week 8-11. On Tues/Thurs I basically got straight home from work and had to report to my computer. Definitely no time for working out! I also went to bed much later.

Now I make working out a priority 6 days a week, and am able to get into bed around 10pm every night. I feel so much better! Also my dependency on caffeine is much less.

I've made a rule for myself. No gaming until I'm done with my workout. Now I do my workout first thing when I get home from work so I have time to do my SWTOR pvp dailies before dinner/bed.

I've had to stop doing raids and operations though, it just takes up too much time. Pvp is must easier to fit into a busy schedule :)

Oh also... this reminded me of nerd fitness.

Leveling up your life > leveling up your character

    Good stuff to remember!

During the week I sleep 5-6 hours and on the weekend I sleep as long as I can usually only 8, 10 if I'm drunk/drugged(cold medicine). I think it was Ben Franklin that said "you can gauge the ambition of a man by whether he loves or hates his alarm clock." I try to love it but who's perfect.

I work a full time 40+ hour job

I've stopped raiding, and decided no more games that require my attendance at a certain day and time, used to play on a Call of Duty team as well, man I was a looser. Now I play games for the story lines. Maybe I'll have a guys night out and play games with them, but I wouldn't dare let myself be sucked back in to playing hours on end.

Some times I do miss pushing progression, and all the fun you have on vent poking fun at people, downing bosses getting loot, etc. But I'd also love feeling good about myself, and what I am doing in my life.

You will have to figure out what works for you, but if you have any questions i'd love to answer them.

I know how you feel! My priorities have just changed. I want to workout (most of the time) more than I want to play video games. Sure I have those lazy days, or weak moments where I can't put the game down but for the most part I know I have to get my workout done if I want to be stronger, fitter, healthier and happier. So I do it. And I have achieved all of those things!

    ^^ This.

My reasons weren't quite the same, but I've done the same thing. No more WoW for me. I'm playing Mass Effect 3 right now, and looking forward to Diablo 3, both games that I can pause / quit at any time.

Our first baby is on the way, due in June. I'll always be a gamer, but I need to be Dad first.

AD - no I think that was my question. Basically it sounds like no one has gotten the raiding (scheduled playing at all) + fitness goals working in concert. which is what I expected. Its not that I can't play games EVER but raiding requires a certain amount of time commitment. I was actually fine with it for the first 6 months but now I've got 6 days of training to fit into 5 days + 2 raid days and it just starts to feel very squeezed. I either have to double up a day on the weekend or leave work early (not always feasible).

Yeah i get what you mean now. I'm no bible thumpper but the saying "no man can serve 2 masters" comes to mind. Its very hard to be a full time raider, 5 days a week gymer, full time job, sleep like a normal person. Some where things will start to suffer, you just have to decide where.

I have a kinect. I have played the hell out of all the dance central games but the your shape games are dull and you can only play child of eden and kinect adventures for so long. I guess I should see what's new out there.

I haven't quit raiding altho I only log in to raid 3 days a week now. But, I'm a SAHM so my schedule is very open. I walk to get my daughter from school (on the days bad weather is here hubby goes to get her). Then at 4:45 pm. I do my workout. Ending pretty much when hubby gets off work. I'm done by dinner and raids isn't until 9pm server time.

Those that work I can see and feel for ya. Do what seems right and things will work out. hug.gif

I stopped playing a lot of games, however I'd say that ME2 and ME3 are worth the break from exercising. Just not a break from eating better.
