Where are your favorite places to run or walk in the Indianapolis area? I'd love to see the group be more active. I've lost 48 pounds but want to lose 70 more. I need all the support I can get and I love to encourage others =) Anyone else trying to run the Mini Marathon in May?

I won't be ready for the mini, or the Carmel half, but I enjoy running. I live in Brownsburg, and there's a trail across the street from my house that's about 2-2.5 miles long. It's shaded and really nice. It also goes by a lot of residential areas in case I need to switch it up.

There's a trail off 38th street on the west side that's .75 miles long that's good for when I'm shooting for a specific distance. That one's by a school and there's always a lot of people around. I'm too slow a runner to go on the canal or I'd go there more often :)

i've recently thought about putting the mini on my goal list. Problem is I don't like running. Ha! I've been more into weight training and doing intervals for my cardio. Still undecided about what I'll do...

Never been a big running fan myself. I've been doing a lot of elliptical, and recently a spin class... However, I've been strongly thinking about doing c25k and testing the waters of running again.

I usually just walk in my neighborhood or at the YMCA, I haven't ventured out to do any walking in a mini or 5K yet.

Too far away for me! Anderson's Aqua Gardens is pretty nice and only about 15 minutes from home, but rarely make it there.

Are those water gardens? That sounds really cool.

uhh... there may be a few "water gardens" in a part of the park that I never go to... the walking/running/bike trails are around a small lake/big pond though.

Hi everyone! I just joined the group - I've been on MFP since November but just started using the community. There is a Warrior Dash in Crawfordsville in August that I'm signing up for with a few friends. I don't like running - even when I'm in shape. But this looks like a fun way to break up the running and will require full body training.

Other races that I know of from the past, there are a few triathlons and duathlons at Eagle Creek and Fort Ben used to have a full marathon along with a mini in the fall. Obviously the may mini but I've heard it's sold out for this year. The race for the cure is coming up in April - I'm only on week 4 of C25K so that won't happen...

Here's a link for an event organizer of a lot of races in the indy area:

Sorry, I guess you weren't asking about races but where to go for everyday. My favorite place is Eagle Creek, it's great to be able to run trails or pavement. I like walking on the canal too, but not brave enough to run there yet.

Good links! Thanks! (I'm in Crawfordsville quite a bit - it's where I grew up, so that one is definitely interesting)

    Coolhand:

Thanks for that link to the dirty girl mud. I just might try this!

I've been seriously thinking of puttying a warrior dash and in the long run a tough mudder on my fitness goals/bucket list.

Anyone know of somewhere good around Lawrence North? (close to where I work)

I was thinking about going down to Fort Ben - I think they have a trail there.. Anyone done that?

I have run a lot at Ft. Ben. They have a paved path that goes around the duck pond, and then you can take it out towards Boy Scout Rd. You can all run up "horse hill" (to the upper part of the park where the stables are) and get some more miles that way.

I like running there, because it is quiet, and has good paths.

They also have some dirt trails that I have not tried yet.
