As I am sure many of you have noticed, the theme for this week is change. This challenge will continue with that theme and take it one step further. So far we have been taken out of our comfort zones by having the teams switched up and we have been issued a challenge to get to 3500 calories burned through working out throughout the week. Both of these are great challenges that are designed to make us get out and change the status quo.
One of my favorite sayings is that the definition of insanity is to do the same things over and over again and expect a different result. Too often we are guilty of this same reasoning. We have a week where we don’t lose as much weight as we would like but instead of reflecting upon what we did wrong and fixing it we simply go on with our same routines, doing the same work outs and eating the same food. Yet when the next week comes along and we again are unhappy with our weight loss we can’t figure out why our same routine didn’t produce different results. The answer is simple; in order to get different results we must do something different!
With that in mind I would like to explain the challenge for this week. We have been challenged to burn 3500 calories throughout the week through working out; each of us should do everything we can to ensure that we hit that goal. The challenge is that you have to find a different way to burn those 3500 calories than you have been using over the past 10 weeks. In other words, get out of your comfort zone and push yourself to do something you haven’t done in the past. If for instance you spend an hour on the elliptical machine every day, stay away from the elliptical this week; instead spend an hour on the stair master. If you normally get your calorie burn by walking, trying running instead. If you use a workout DVD at home, find a different DVD. Each person can decide for himself or herself what it is they will do to change their workout; there are only 2 rules that you must follow. 1. You must do something that will work out different muscles than you have been working previously and 2. It must be more strenuous and push you harder than anything you have done in the past. Be sure to leave a comment below explaining what workout you have done in the past and what workout you are planning on doing this week. This will keep you accountable for your goal and will help others who are struggling with ideas. Let’s get out there and make this week a great one by getting out of our comfort zones! Good Luck!

I am sooo loving this challenge!!!! Thanks again Michael!!! I am going to try hard to conquer this challenge!! You are so right about doing the same things and expecting a differt result! I usually go to the gym 5 times week. I take 60 aerobics classes everyday and do an additional hour of circuit training 3 times a week. The other 2 days I add a half hour jog to my aerobics workout.
This week I will get back on my spinning bike! I have been neglecting it since I started going to the gym! I also used to do push ups daily and I have stopped. I will try to start incorporating that into my daily workout!
Change is good!0 -
OK
I did it!!! Did 30 minutes of Spinning...and boy was I out of my comfort zone!!! After the first 10 minutes I wanted to give up....But I had set my goal to so 30 minutes...so I pushed myself!!! Felt sooo good!!! I also did 20 push ups..... NOT fun! But I did it!!0 -
Pam, awesome job! I have to admit this challenge will definitely be challenging for me. The hardest workout that I can't do is Insanity. I tried this a couple of weeks ago. I did about 10 minutes of it and simply had to stop. I felt like my heart was popping out of my chest. It was a horrible 10 minutes and I didn't think I could do another 30 more minutes.
For the sake of this challenge, I will bite the bullet and try it again on my day off. Wish me luck!0 -

I have been doing the elliptical a lot lately. I didn't read this post until after I hit the elliptical this morning. This week I am going to do intervals of jog/walk or a spinning bike for my cardio. I am going to do strength training 3x this week using new exercises/machines I haven't done before. Also, if my schedule cooporates, this weekend I may try hot yoga.0

This sounds like a great change! Good luck with the new routine. One of the main purposes of this challenge is to get us doing something we have wanted to do for a long time but for whatever reason we have put off. Go ahead and try that hot yoga class, it will be awesome!0 -
I have been doing the 30DS for the past 60 days or so. The past 30 days I have been doubling up and doing 2 Cycles back to back to keep the challenge up. I have decided it just isn't the workout it used to be so I am going to move up a step to "Burn Fat Boost Metabolism". I have been wanting to take that step for a few weeks now, it incorporates some kick boxing and other moves that I am excited to get into. In addition to doing this DVD 5 times this week, I will be plaing in a basketball league several times this week to change things up. I have been wanting to get back into basketball for quite a while but have been thinking I should wait just a bit longer. It is time to bite the bullet and just do it!0

I did 15 minutes of spinning today. I had not done spinning in a while, it felt soo good!0

I added 15 minutes of elliptical trainer today. Its been forever since I've been on it, b/c I just downright hate it, so that's my plan this week to add some elliptical to my routine. I'm doing jillian michaels body revolution and really want to keep up with the 90 day program as scheduled. I'm also working on couch to 5k when the weather permits....lots of rain lately. Good luck everyone!!

I'm training for an olympic distance triathlon. That's way outside of what I think I can actually do. As far as workouts, I'm swimming 2 days a week, biking 2 days a week, and running 2 days a week (at least 60 minutes of each activity). There's not much room for anything else0

Ironically, this week I HAVE to try different things to workout since my son is sick Today I pulled an OLDIE but GOODIE!!!! Please DO NOT LAUGH at me.......Tae Bo.....!!!! It was the only exercise DVD that I found!!!! I did 45 minutes ( with my son hanging on me!!!) LOL!!!! I also did some more spinning today!!!! This week I will be doing all sorts of NEW things to try and burn some cals!!!
If you guys have any ideas for some home workouts (I can not find any of the popular DVD's here in Italy). I will try anything!!!!0 -
Mostly my workouts consist of running 30-40 minutes 3 days a week and crunched, situps, lunges, squats,Russian twiststs and a few other things everyday. This week I am going to try working out with one of many Dvds I have never used and maybe try some sprinting short distances instead of my normal jogging. I will try to add some other things as well but not sure what just yet...0

I know this is thread is for doing something different this week, but i wanted to share with you guys. So I totally decided to step out of my comfort zone. I signed up for a four week bootcamp. It starts in 2 weeks. This is a big step for me, b/c i'm the type that likes to do dvds at home where no one can see me working out. I'm excited and a little nervous. It will push me more, and be another means of keeping me accountable b/c we have to turn in weekly food logs. Wish me luck!0
