Tonight I got an itch right between my shoulder blades that I just could not reach and I thought how nice it would be to have someone in bed next to me to scratch it. Simple and silly and most likly stupid to some but it was the first time in a long time I felt alone. So my question to you what little simplistic thing has happen to you and it remind you that you are single

    The extra disposable income

    THIS!!!

Seriously, there's very little I miss about my ex, but I do miss how he drove me around everywhere. For 15 years if he was with me I never opened my own door. Sounds lame, but little things like that endeared him to me, and I appreciated it. Don't get me wrong: life is much better now, driving myself and opening my own doors. I have SO much more money now that someone isn't sitting at home spending it faster than I can make it.

I also miss having a man to shop for. I see stuff all the time that's a good deal and would look good on my ex or one of my guy friends and I want sooooo bad to buy it for them. But it's not my role anymore.

I was the first one married out of my group of friends. And the only one to divorce. I am reminded of it constantly, as we all get together..and I am the only single one. Never bitter, it was my choice to be single, just sad sometimes that I am usually number 9 in the group

I totally get this. Not lame at all.

Mine has been dealing with a sick kid alone all day after staying up with him all night. It's so stressful I want to cry to someone but thee is no one. So I just stopped crying.

Seeing a travel deal on one of those online coupon sites that gets me interested until I read the part under terms & conditions that says "min. 2 to go" :ohwell:

I just went to a wedding this weekend and I didn't have a date either! Every one felt sorry for me and kept trying to strike up conversation. . Little did they know that if I had issues with going alone, I wouldn't have gone. . . :) I'm lucky I enjoy my own company. . .

^^^This! until I got over it and decided to go where I wanted to go anyway! Traveling alone is sometimes easier... No other opinion to consider.

I'm still wrking on mustering enough courage to travel alone!

But courage aside, it seems that solo travel is a little more costly, especially when it comes to booking hotel rooms :grumble:

    Youth hostels!

I'm single because I can sleep with my arms stretched across the bed and I can do what I want on my own without any second thoughts about it, without never having to consider if anyone will get pissed off.

I'm single because I don't cook a really good lunch for two on Saturday and if I want to go somewhere random with a special someone I can't just turn around and say: "Hey I've got an idea, let's do this now!".

There's a radio commercial that always reminds me. And sort of baffles me. "If you're a woman, over 35, and married you can get really cheap life insurance!"

Wait, why do I have to be married? Am I going to go out and do something really risky because I'm single? Is it an HIV risk thing, or are they afraid I'll take up base jumping, or what? Or maybe they figure at my age no one except a mass murderer would date me?

I generally like being single, or don't think about it at all, but I hate that commercial.

Any public gathering pretty much showcases me as being single, there is often an unspoken sense of discomfort.
Not so much by me but everyone else as if I was something of an alien being.

Grocery shopping, even in a small town one gets funny looks as a guy shopping alone.

Holidays, they are geared around family events.

Not many things because I'm loving it so far...

Sadly the things that do make me say "oh yeah, I'm by myself now" are:

Having to reach for the spices up in the cabinet
    Taking the trash out
Anything to do with the car (if oil needs to be changed, etc)

    So many...

The empty bed. I try and sleep in the middle but no matter what I end up on "my side"

When a pipe broke in my front yard

When I have to change the filter for my A/C-heater thingy. Don't even know what its called.

When I get a flat tire

When the other sink in my bathroom is piled up with useless crap because nobody uses it

    When I want a hug

    When I want sex

Cooking for one (thank god I have my kids every other week)

Having to have my daughter pick me up drunk after a Christmas party. I'm a terrible mother - she actually saw me throw up in the car :(

Oh lord.......I better stop for now :)

When I was married and sick I *still* had no one to take care of me. In fact, he got frustrated that I was too sick to take care of *him*

At least now, when I'm sick (which, thankfully, is pretty rare) I have a little peanut who prays for me and gives me his best blankie.

When the power went out on Sunday night and I lit candles around the apartment. I actually missed wine first (I have a wine club order just waiting for Lent to finish). Then, yes, the companionship was missed.

I also miss having someone when I go to the beach, which I'll do this weekend. The sun, sand and surf seem to get me worked up (and maybe it is the oysters and bikinis).

Wow, after reading all this, I am feeling a bit depressed.

I think for me it is realizing I have no one to lean on whether it be emotionally or physically. Most days I am fine but my three year old is not terribly interested in hearing about my bad days. lol He is great with the hugs and kisses though.
