Stress Reaction in Foot

I have been training for my 3rd half-marathon while also doing CrossFit workouts and playing on a competitive volleyball league. I wore the same shoes (Asics Nimbus) for every exercise and started having pain on the outside of my right foot. The doctor told me it is a stress "reaction" caused by doing the cross training workouts in the wrong shoes and I need to stop running and avoid high intensity workouts for 3 weeks. I have been swimming laps, running in the pool, taking spinning classes, and lifting weights now. It's been almost 2.5 weeks since I've avoided high intensity workouts and my foot still has a dull pain on the outside. I purchased new shoes for cross training and new Asics (2170) for running, plus I bought insoles to help with my high arches (recommended by the doctor). I really hope that the pain goes away soon so I can begin running next week...I would HATE to cause a stress fracture in my foot! Have any of you experienced a stress reaction?? What did you do to help "treat" it??? How long did it take for it to get better??? Thanks for any advice you can give.
