Should I change my wedding date in order to lose more weight

Hi all!

I have been engaged for two years but thanks to career changes and a cross country move, we've been unable to settle down and plan a wedding. Til now... when I'm at my unhealthiest point ever!

All of the life stress really got to me over the past couple years and I put on 50 pounds above my normal weight. Now, it looks like our best option of a wedding date is going to be August 4th. The date is not confirmed yet so there's a possibility I could look at something later, but I do think a summer wedding will work better for my family.

And that brings me to two questions for those of you who have been at it longer than me...

1) Is it worth pushing back the date in order to get more time for exercise?

2) It's not likely that I can lose the fifty pounds by my wedding day but how can I optimize my results and look as fit and trim as possible?

I am currently on a 1200 cal per day diet but am planning to work out every day, too. Will I get better results if I don't eat the calories from exercise back, or if I do?

Any tips and tricks will be a huge help! Also, please feel free to friend request me and check in so we can be updated about each other! I just joined myfitnesspal and would like to see more people's updates on my home page. It's so motivating to see others' growth and progress!

Thanks in advance,
Amisha

  • Eat the calories back! If you don' t your body will start to starve and your metabolism will slow down and you wont see the loss you want. Lots of fresh veggies and fruits as well as protiens have helped me. Also water, drink until you feel like you are going to burst....and then drink some more. And for the wedding, don't push it back, find a dress you love and realize he loves you no matter what size you are and thats what really matters

Truthfully, I'd never push back my wedding to lose weight. Just stay focused and really stay on track. I'd love to lose about 45 lbs but I know that I may not be able to by September (our wedding month), after a 2 year engagement, but I know I'll be so happy that day that I'll be happy with whatever lose I get and my FI will be happy to. Keep the day!

I personally think it's silly to postpone one of the happiest days of your life simply over a few pounds. I include myself when I say sometimes I think we start getting so caught up in the planning and the ceremony and the reception and the people and the pictures that we honestly forget that it's the one day we start our lives with the men (or women) that we love.

With that said, I will always be an advocate for healthy. Like above posters have said, drink LOTS of water. Try to incorporate more fruits and veggies into your diet. Become more active.. (a simple 10 dollar pedometer will do wonders for getting those steps in). Also, take a look at your lifestyle and your current activity level. Play around with your calorie goals. Keep in mind this is your own personal journey and while there are TONS of helpful tools, you have to find what will work best for YOU.

    Best of luck!

I agree with the other posters - Im getting married in 4months and while I am no where NEAR close to my ideal "goal weight" for being a bride - there is no way I would even think about changing my date.
Of course we all want to look our best on the day of - but, reality - your groom will think you're gorgeous no matter what. your guest will think you are the most beautiful bride they have ever seen.
extra lbs is not going to change anything.
dont obsess so much about the weight - there are WAY more important things to stress over when planning the wedding

But... good luck in the meantime - and to answer your questions
    1. yes, eat back your calories - you might want to get an HRM to accurately track all the calories you're burning during workout (MPF was WAY off when I started using the HRM).
    2. up the protein, lower your carbs/sugar/dairy - and UP UP UP the water
