Nutritional Challenge Day 23

Hello Everyone!

Fruits and vegetables contain essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that may help protect you from chronic diseases. Compared with people who consume a diet with only small amounts of fruits and vegetables, those who eat more generous amounts as part of a healthful diet are likely to have reduced risk of chronic diseases, including stroke and perhaps other cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers. We all know fruits are good for you, but do you know why they are good for you? Pears are rich in Vitamin C and copper. Vitamin C and copper are great antioxidants. Antioxidants help protect the body against oxygen-related damage. Oranges have extremely high level of Vitamin C. With one orange you can meet the daily vitamin C requirement needed daily. Oranges contain antioxidant properties that reduce cholesterol and reduce inflammation. Vitamin C helps to build strong bones and teeth as well as fighting cell damage that may lead to cancer or heart disease. Grapefruits contain the antioxidant lycopene, known to possess anti-tumor activity. Grapefruit is also great for constipation, it aids in bowel movements. You have probably heard of "the grapefruit diet". This fruit has also been promoted as a food that helps burn fat. Watermelon has many antioxidants, namely lycopene. Lycopene protects against many cancers including breast, prostate, lung and colorectal. Along with green tea, it decreases chances for prostate cancer. All fruits have very important vitamins and antioxidants but we just named a few!
