Hi everyone. I just found out about this group via a post that I put on the forums ( http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/540042-developed-an-allergy-to-meat-protein-what-to-do)

I have been fighting with several side effects to meats (almost all normal varieties) over the past few weeks and have some side effects that you just can't really life with (too embarrassing to talk about).

So, I am looking for ideas, support and any help I can get as I try to figure out how to become a non-meat eater.

My updated allergic to foods list....lol

I was already allergic to tomatoes, shell fish, mushrooms, peanuts, avocados, strawberries (if too many), and lactose intolerant.

Now can't eat any meat for at least 4-6 weeks, but probably for the rest of my life. Meats that I have shown allergic reactions to over the last few weeks include beef, turkey, chicken, pork, and lamb.

So, I can eat eggs, but only 2 or 3 a week, no more than 1/2 a glass of milk per day and that is only if I don't eat eggs or cheese, tomatoes only if cooked and in very small quantities, no shell fish, no mushrooms, peanuts I can tolerate in small quantities (like peanut butter) but have to have the benedryl handy and of course, have to watch the dairy intake.

Anyone else trying to lose weight with a diet that is so limited?

    Glad you made it here!

You already know from my other messages to you that I am on a limited diet too. You can do it!

It can be tough having a limited diet.
I really like this protein powder I found, and it is soy and milk free, so it is easy to digest; it is called Plant Fusion. I don't eat much meat except tuna and salmon, so it gives me the protein I need. I also suggest quinoa so you an get all your amino acids.
At first when I went off meat I starting eating a lot more soy, and that gave me lots of problems. So just keep an eye on that, and if you are having problems, just cut back on soy.
Lentils are always good if you like them.
Good luck with figuring every thing out. It can be tough, but once everything is settled you feel so much better.

I'm not allergic to meat, but I can't digest red meat well, and I am allergic to milk/casein. I started drinking chlorella, spirulina and kelp to get my protein. A teaspoon of chlorella has as much protein as an ounce of beef! I'm currently loving Kyo-Green Energy Powder Drink. A bit expensive, but my allergic reactions have really lessened since I have been drinking it daily, and I'm trying to eat at least 80% raw fruits and veggies daily as well.

Oh, I also love Raw Protein, a vegan powder. It doesn't have any sweeteners in it, so it is perfect for putting in a fruit smoothie with bananas, blueberries and a little agave nectar. I add chia seeds to up the fiber and hemp seeds for the Omega 3's :-) Very filling as well and can tide me over between meals.

It is really hard to lose weight with all these allergies. My body retains a lot of water because I'm so inflamed all the time, and my belly is often round and bloated. Some days I swear I ate nothing off, but I still end up with an unhappy tummy or migraine. Anyway, I feel your pain, literally!

Have you actually been tested for your allergies? I know I have and sometimes it's something you don't expect. I know they add a dye to the meats to make them red. You may be allergic to that or something they are adding to soften the meats. If you haven't been tested, I would look into it because it'll make a world of difference and would help you narrow down what's happening.

I would also start with the primary allergens which are wheat, dairy, and corn. Either way, you won't be sure what it causing your systemic reaction until your tested. The other issue - yeast. You'd be surprised how many people are allergic to it and if you're having a systemic reaction to a candida outbreak - it'll show up in a blood test. I have lots of allergies but when that one goes out of whack...it makes it look like everything I touch is out to get me and it's more my immune system crashing.

I hope you are ok. Please post so we know how things are going.

It is difficult but you can do it. I personally have found I have been reacting to hamburger. Not severely but enough to limit the amounts I am using. My husband has issues with chicken and turkey so we don't use it often. But we do cook with meat mostly pork at our house.

However my list of foods I react to since I have been tracking has increased to my dismay. However now tha I am aware I feel better. My list currently includes: Many grains so I eat gluten free with no quinoa, sourghum, soy, dairy, yams and coconut. Limited corn, tomatoes, broccoli and hamburger.

You use the foods you can use. Learning your tolerance levels to the foods you have issues with. Allergy or intolerance. I hope you find what you need.
