sorry for a similar topic so soon but what do you think of this?
The mother of Trayvon Martin has filed two applications to secure trademarks containing her late son’s name, records show.
Sybrina Fulton is seeking marks for the phrases “I Am Trayvon” and “Justice for Trayvon,” according to filings made last week with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In both instances, Fulton, 46, is seeking the trademarks for use on “Digital materials, namely, CDs and DVDs featuring Trayvon Martin,” and other products.
The March 21 USPTO applications, each of which cost $325, were filed by an Orlando, Florida law firm representing Fulton, whose first name is spelled "Sabrina" in the trademark records.
What do you think her motives are for trying to do this?Protect her sons name? Money? I really hope not money ...........

COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.
Way to grieve for your son.0 -
I find the insiniuation that she could be looking to profit in any way from this to be abhorrent! It's very, VERY clear that she is simply trying to protect her son's name and to avopid his name or likeness being linked with any kind of racially divisive or inflammatory materials. A wise step in my opinion.0

If that is truly what she is doing then it is a smart move, however I think we can all agree there are some pretty selfish and horrible people out there mothers or not that would do this for profit (not many but they are out there), it's naive to assume it's not a possibility..............but this is one of those things time will tell. There is a lot of money being made off this tragedy and it is very disheartening. I hope she puts the money to an honest use though.........if she gets it.0 -
She's trying to make a buck.0

I can kind of understand, considering that a lot of people are trying to profit from this incident. I'll withhold any judgment until I see what she plans to do with the TM. It may be just a way to keep control of something that's gone crazy.0

You know, if it was my daughter who had been killed, I would want everyone shouting "Justice for Isabelle".
She is just trying to make a buck. Sick. Sick. Sick.0 -

Trademarking it doesn't stop anyone from saying it. It stops others from making money off of it.0 -
To me just shows that she has smart lawyers. Here is a link to story.

Here is excerpt.
Fulton filed trademark applications last week for "I am Trayvon" and "Justice for Trayvon," sayings that have appeared on T-shirts and hoodies in the wake of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin's shooting death in Florida, the Associated Press reports.
The Trayvon Martin killing has received worldwide notoriety. But his mother's trademark applications are not meant to make money off the tragedy, her lawyer told the AP.
Rather, Trayvon Martin's mother's trademark claims seek to protect her intellectual property rights for "projects that will assist other families who experience similar tragedies," her attorney said in an email to the AP.
When asked if Sybrina Fulton had any plans to profit off the trademarks, her lawyer replied, "None."0 -

I find these posts to be awfully strange, and it seriously becomes evident to any non-biased person who looks at these things objectively that most people in the media, on these debate forums and in general have chosen a side regardless of facts, reasoning or logic. Isn't it strange that almost to a man/woman, that everyone here, regardless of the fact that Zimmerman called 911 more than 50 times in a year, has a history of violence (beat his wife), and ran down and chased a kid he more than likely called a F'n coon, a kid who ended up dead, all believe that his story that it was self defense is the truth....but when Martin's mother, a law abiding citizen with no history of corruption, fraud or crime trade marks her name for non-profit reasons as she claims, she's a lying piece of human filth making a buck on her dead son. Isn't that strange?0

Seriously. People are putting his mother on 'trial' now. I think THAT is what is pathetic. This woman has done absolutely nothing but bury her son. If you know anything about Trademarks she was probably advise by a lawyer to do this to keep others from profiting by selling T-shirts using her sons name and likeness.0 -

Trademarking in this case and others like it has nothing to do with making a buck. It has everything to do with preventing others from using your child for their own benefit - a benefit that may well make your absolutely appalled and disgusted. If aything, she didn't go far enough if she isn't trademarking his likeness as well.0
