So for some reason I decided to do crossfit twice yesterday. I was pretty sore during the second work out after work, but am not too terribly sore today. I made sure I utilized different muscle groups and what not, but I was wondering...
1. If anyone else does two a days and also
2. If you think they help or hinder progress and
3. What is the limit for how frequent you can/should do two a days

I took a complete rest day today but will be back at it tomorrow!

Thanks,

Cass

Good question, Cass. I was wondering this myself. Bump for later!

I'd think increasing the volume would require decreasing the intensity or something along those lines...just throwing out 2 cents....

It seems that all the physical benefit of CrossFit is a function of high average heart rate over time, combined with the strength and coordination gains of the particular skills being practices.

Therefore, provided you are adequately fueling your efforts and are not overtraining a muscle or joint, then it's really no different than two-a-day football practice for 6 hours every god-awful Aug afternoon in Texas, or running a marathon, or riding 30-50 miles at a quick pace...

Don't do it every day, perhaps, but otherwise - meh?

I used to do two-a-days frequently about half a year ago. I would do one WOD and then another immediately afterwards. I ended up overusing my shoulder and totally screwing up my chances in the Open this year. I am slowly, very slowly, recuperating. But I long to go back to the days of doing two-a-days. Instead, for the time being, after the WOD I have been working on a skill set or weakness that I might have. Running, double unders and rowing are the main ones, though I will use any excuse to work on a heavy lift or strength training or oly lift as well. My hope (and my advice to you if you want to do two-a-days) is to do one WOD in the morning and one in the early evening and continue working on skills and endurance as well. I am pretty blessed because my box (Hub City Crossfit www.hubcitycrossfit.com) allows me to pay a low monthly fee for unlimited use of the gym and trainers during the class times they have set up. Nowhere else in Lubbock (and very few elsewhere from what I have seen) allow such activity.

I'm all for two-a-days, just be smart about it. AND make sure your nutrition makes up for it. you may want to check out CrossFit Endurance, they have a strength and conditioning WOD, an endurance WOD where you choose from a WOD for single sport (swimming, biking, running or rowing), or a WOD for multisport, like if you were doing a triathalon. They suggest that you do the endurance WOD at least 3 hours prior to the strength and conditioning.

Good luck, and keep up your drive! Maybe we'll see each other in competition one day, yeah?

I was reading a lot of the games competitors do two-a-days, but only once-twice/week.

When I was going to my Box I'd do a WOD in the morning, come home and when my husband got home, I'd do something like tabata's. I couldn't imagine taxing my body with thrusters in one WOD, then something crazy like wall balls or burpees in the 2nd WOD... But I'm doing this for fun and not to compete.
