Hi All!
Hope last week's goals went well and that those of you who were healing are all healed and those who are/have competing/competed their triathlons-tell us about them!
Soooo, oldie, but goodie: How did you do and what are you hoping to do this week?
I did not do anything admirable this week, but I did survive it, so yay!
This week, I am heading home for the holiday soooo I am going to make some adjustments and here is what I hope to accomplish:
MONDAY: spin am (I got spin shoes and am excited to try them out!)
TUESDAY: swim am, run 42 minutes pm
WEDNESDAY: spin am (weights)
THURSDAY: swim am
FIRDAY: run am 42 minutes
SATURDAY: swim (if the pool is open)
SUNDAY: brick (bike run, if my Montreal bike is all fixed up, otherwise, run interval and trampoline workout)
Happy Easter/Passover and happy training!!!

Still nursing my strained back. Goal is to workout every day this week for 30 minutes. I have been given a routine by a Physical therapist that includes some stretches,15 minutes altetnating cycling with no resistance or swimming and 10 minutes on an arm cycle. We tried to add some core but it threw my back back into spasm so we are laying off until we meet this week. I know it is a poor core that contributed to this, the irony is that I think it was the increase in core training that contributed. As long as I am ready for May 20th...lesson learned the hard way!

I can relate to injuries because of weak core-keep sharing your ideas and hang in there!
I have a bit of a sore lower back-but I am hoping it will go away on its own and I can meet my goals-when I was planning this week, I was walking and talking to myself like a total nutcase, but I think it will work!

Okay, this is my first post for weekly check-ins! I just decided to actually sign up for a Sprint Tri on June 3rd.
Monday - short bike ride (just get myself out there)
Tuesday - 1 mile + interval run, Zumba
Wednesday - TRX/Kettlebell Fusion Class, swimming
Thursday - outdoor bike ride 10+ miles
Fri, Sat, Sun - Travel to parents, probably nada!0 -

Going down to Texas 70.3 yesterday really got the juices flowing again. Good time watching my friends break PRs.
Today- hour swim, speed work on the treadmill, core
Tuesday- hour swim, recovery run, hour on the trainer
Wednesday- Long run
Thursday- hour swim, hour and a half on the trainer
Friday- Tempo run or parking garages
Saturday- 60-70 miles on the bike
Sunday- Off0 -

Tempo run is about 6-7 miles at slightly less than race pace. I usually dial it back about 30 sec/mile. I'll extend these out if training for a half iron distance race. Parking garages are just what they sound like. Find an empty parking garage at 5 AM and sprint to the top, recovery on the way down. Two of my favorite speed sets to do out doors w/o a track. I really like Yassos too but they're easier to do on the treadmill or a track.0

Well, I'm not officially starting my tri training yet (it's in November), but I am doing Fartleks, trail run, and a primal strength training workout this week. Then Saturday I am finally going to get out with the Tri Club and do a 5k trail run that is supposed to be really tough. Kinda scared, but they assure me they won't leave me out there if I'm slow.0

Good thing about trail runs is that the scenery changes. It's not like the monotony of street or treadmill running. Also if you train with a group the time goes by much faster. I find this applies to cycling as well. I find the time flies by and I push myself much harder if I train with other triathletes.0

REST WEEK for me. Let the knee/body recover from the half ironman last Sunday. I'll probably get in the water Friday though. Sitting idle does me know good!0

Ok, so the trail run with the Tri club was INTENSE! It started out kinda sandy, and then it got more sandy. A couple of mud walls (one was about 20 ft tall with a 90% incline!), more sand.....It was like running though a desert! Then lots of very steep muddy hills, streams to jump over, etc, etc, etc. We happened to get there a little late because we weren't sure where it was, so they let me jump in on the second lap. Thank GOD I was not there at the beginning, cuz I probably wouldn't have been smart enough to stop after one lap and then I would have died! I'm glad I got out there and tried. It was motivating seeing all the super athletes working so hard. And I learned that if the Triathlon club says it's "the toughest 5K you'll ever do", they freakin mean it!0
