I haven't been to a convention in 3 years, and I've never cosplayed in my life, but..... I'm seriously contemplating creating a Katniss Everdeen costume for Dragon*Con this year. I should be at my fitness goal by then. Anyone here cosplay? If so, how/when do you start on your costume??

I'll start out by saying that I've never cosplayed...mostly b/c I live too far from any Cons... which is too bad..

However, I'm planning on going all out for halloween this year. I've been researching on how to make a Hellboy costume. Believe me when I say that you should start ASAP! You need to give yourself enough time to find the right peices, and enough time to create the peices you're missing.

I've already started hunting for the trench coat and a hockey glove (to use as the base for the arm). If you give yourself enough time to hunt, you'll get great results.

We would love to see pics of the final product! Just sayin'

I've done it once but I "cheated" and had someone make my costume for me! I don't have the skills to sew but something like Katniss should be easy to put together on your own!

I will definitely post pics during/after! I think the toughest part will be finding the bow and arrow. The only thing I have right now is a set of boots. Thanks for the tips; I'll start ASAP for sure!

I'm planning on doing the same. I may have it done in time for Dragon*con, I'm still debating. I'm thinking of going as the Punisher. The old 80's one with the white knee high boots and the white elbow length gloves. I'm not sure I'll be at my fitness goal, but I'm planning on getting a zentai suit (basically full body lycra), and go from there with the extras.

Google is my friend to find all the crap I will need.

Hey, my last convention was 3 years ago too! I am DYING to go to D*C one day. Alas, I live too far away right now. :(

I usually start on a costume as soon as I get the idea. For A-Kon in June, I started LAST September. However, that was only because I had to coordinate between myself and my partner (who lives 1,500 miles away) and order lots of parts and pieces. I'm still working now and I've only got 8 weeks left! Oh no! To top it all off, I'm still working on my fitness goal, so it makes sewing difficult as I'm not quite to my goal weight yet.

Heya! I'm off to KitaCon in Birmingham,UK in 10 days - my first con and cosplay. My sister goes to these things all time and I finally had to say yes this time!

I'm going as Katarina from League Of Legends - started thinking about the costume in November but mainly actually started it a couple of months ago. I have cheated a bit, I can't sew and am not very creative so I bought the majority of clothing stuff and 'pimped' it, I guess...gotta start somewhere lol!! Im quite happy to say i managed to make spikey wrist and leg cuff/armour thingys and some kunai throwing daggers, which don't look bad at all. Anyway, even though I'm gonna be waaaaaaaaaaaay out of my depth (and comfort zone) I'm actually, really looking forward to it :-))

There are approximately two conventions a year here, but they're both in Oslo (aka faaaar away) and out of my schedule (abroad one, exam week second one) - but I need to get my cosplay on when I get rid of the excess 10-15 lbs left.

I also want to go as Katniss, but my hair is much too bright and short, although I *love* her badassedness. I have so many cosplays I want to do, but my first would probably be Winry, Zoë or Zoey (Dreamfall & L4D, respectively) or Molly if I can find a Dresden. All of them bad-*kitten* in their own respects.

My sister cosplays a LOT (a lot a lot) and she is very particular so she spends a long time working on her costumes, but I'm not sure exactly how long. If you aren't used to sewing ESPECIALLY not to making your own patterns, start early as you will mess things up and want to redo them.

Maybe save up and invest in one. She uses a recurve bow. They are very easy to find. I'm sure you can find a cheap one if you just want it for cosplay. Or you can get a good one and maybe take up archery. I know Bass Pro Shops sells them online. :)

I don't really cosplay anymore, but I do want to dress up as a female Dovahkiin from Skyrim for Halloween. :D

    Also. Katniss ftw.
