Ladies...bike shorts that actually fit???

Okay so I have big thighs, not squishy, just big, but my hips and waist are relatively small. So here is the problem...if they fit my thighs the waist band is at my boobs and the crotch isn't snug so it bunches and rubs. I know not to wear "skivies" and I use a little glide, but anything over 40 miles I get saddle sores. THIS SUCKS! Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

they are much more comfy, you don't get that roll over waistband for one! Go try a pair

The waistband doesn't bother me, there is just so much extra material in the crease(sp?) at the top of the thigh that it rubs.

I've had my fair share of saddle sores and they are not fun. Mine were from sweating a lot during long, chilly rides. The sweat evaporated leaving a bunch of salt which basically turns your chamois into sand paper, ouch! Finding the proper fitting shorts will also eliminate any sore issues. If you have too much padding on either your saddle or in your chamois, you could be unknowingly creating additional friction. Try a thinner pad, or a different saddle. I would also recommend the bib idea. They are great for stream-lining and eliminating the dreaded "muffin-top". Hope that helps.
PS, my favorite are the Pearl Izumi Symphony shorts. Cheers!
  • Bibs, bibs, bibs!! I love them and will never go back.

One thing to look for, if you're doing longer rides with bathroom stops, look for a pair that have a zip or something to make bathroom breaks easier. My personal favorite bibs are Pearl Izumi's Droptail. They seem to have generously cut legs. I've also tried Girodana's and they are a little tighter in the legs. PI's fabric is also more forgiving and stretchy all around the chamois is fantastic. Check eBay for good deals.

Ditto. I also have big rear/thighs, but small waist. These shorts are great. I don't love the chamois (PI chamois are always a little bulky), but the shorts are a good fit. I also like the Shebeest S-Pro shorts, but they are damned impossible to find and will be until Shebeest starts distributing to the US again early next year.

I have yet to try bibs...because I have big-ish boobs and I can't bear the thought of wearing a double-layered sports bra + bibs + jersey. 4 layers of fabric over my boobs...no thanks.

Well, that's kind of like asking which jeans fit best...

Are you sure you're not buying your shorts too big? I've got pretty big thighs, smaller (but not tiny) waist and I can't say I've really had this issue.

Most of my women's cut shorts don't come that high though... they come up just above my hip bones in the front, but rise higher in the back.

I ride Pearl and Terry some by my favories are Ascente.

    Good luck!
    Jen

Thanks y'all, I actually added a mid-thigh compression layer under to prevent the rub in the crease and that helped a bunch. Haven't gotten to a store so I can try the PI, but going to Columbus next week.

My friend has the same issue, and she swears by Hincapie bib shorts..... I know it's late.... but since you haven't tried anything I thought I'd add!
