UK Riders - Endurance?

Guys,
I'm looking for a new challenge for me and my loan mare.
I read a great article about Endurance riding and thought it'd be great to try out for us. We are both happy hackers and I love riding for pleasure but not competition and the more I read, the more I thought it'd be good to try.
My mare is 24 but loves hacking out. I know I'd have to work on both our fitness before we tried something but thought it would be a good way of having a target for the summer season.
Has anyone tried it and if so what were your experiences?

Hey we are trying to get into this - slowely tho cause every time we do one we have to get Mum to come look after the children. We are booked for the 15 mile pleasure ride of the Golden Horseshoe on Exmoor weekend after next - hopefully it will have dried up!! We booked for a few last year and did lots of fun rides but the endurance GB ones are expensive unless you become an associate member - about £25 per ride I think where fun rides are normally £10 to £15. Our horses normally go out 3 times per week and cope with theese longer rides fine - although I dont normally go out for less than 90 mins usually and most of our rides are a couple of hours. Let me know how you get on - what part of the country are you in? Have you checked out the Endurance GB website for your local rides? :-)0

Hello )
Look on the Endurance GB website, there are non-competitive rides as well as longer competitive ones listed.
I have done a few of the non-competitive rides with my mare, I love them, there just aren't many in my area and I do not have my own horse transport so am a little restricted.
Do you have someone you could go with? Most of the rides I have been on the other riders are considerate (don't charge past you) and friendly but might be worth finding a friend to go with for your first time. I love it and think you should definitely give it a go )
Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck!0
