Criteria for taking a test?

What's your criteria for taking a pregnancy test? Late period? Morning sickness? Hope?

As for myself, I don't have regular periods. I've only actual had 3 periods since being off my birth control pills more than a year ago, but all 3 were in the last 5ish months. Since I don't have regular periods, and since I know that not everyone gets morning sickness, I take a pregnancy test about once a month. There's been about 2 months I skipped over the last year, but otherwise I've taken a test once a month. I usually do it on a special date. For example I took a test thanksgiving day, one on christmas eve, and so on. This month I'm taking a test on April 22nd, which is my 6 year dating anniversary with my husband.

Yes the way I do it may be unneccessary or a waste of money, but I feel like with no regular periods and the possibility of no morning sickness, then how in the world am I going to know until months in when I start to gain weight?!

So how does everyone else define when it's time to take a pregnancy test?

Since you are not having a regular period I think your way is great for you. Some of the tests out there you can buy at one price but it has more than one test in them I found one for $14 that had 4 in them. I do not have regular periods either but they still come every month just not a 28 day cycle like most people. So I wait the 2 weeks after when I expect to come before taking the test.

Yeah I bought a 5 pack of tests a while back for like $17 I think and it lasted me for probably 6 months or so. I recently paid $4 a piece for two from the dollar store, and I've got one left upstairs for next weekend. However I found out that another store near me has them for $1. And I've heard that sometimes the cheapy ones show up quicker than most other tests. Not sure if I want to try that kind or not though.

The last 3 periods I had, were on average about 45 days apart, so my test I plan to take next weekend will actually be around the 45 day mark, meaning it could be even more accurate than just taking a test whenever. I'm hoping that will help!
