No VAT on Sports Drink (Protein shakes etc...)

Hi there,

Not sure if this has been posted here before. But the government are planning on adding VAT to sports drinks, therefore products such as protein shakes will have 20% added to them. A tub of protein costing (average) £30 will go up to £36 when this is introduced.

Amazing how jaffa cakes can still remain VAT free yet healthy and nutritional products such as this can't.

Please support it.

Thanks.

What makes even less sense is that slimming drinks will also remain VAT free, now please correct me if I'm wrong but aren't these just protein drinks with a few vitamins thrown in?

The proposed VAT changes are due to come into force on 1st October (so stock up before hand!), and the government are currently having a consultation period that ends on 2nd May so a petition now might just work.

ahhh suck it up. Girls pay tax on sanitary products, they are essential - unless everyone's happy for us to stop using them - protien shakes aren't essential. I think tax should be at normal food levels for everything.

yes but you can get sanitary products free os charge through family planning, as far as I know they don't offer free protein drinks...and the general idea was supposed to be tax unhealthy crap and not stuff promoting a more healthy way of life

personally don't care as don't use either lol
