Introduce Yourself!

Time for the lurkers to come out! Time for there to be a thread where we introduce ourselves! Veterans and n00bs alike, let's get to know each other. Who are you? What do you like? Why are you single? What do you look for in a partner?
I'll lead the charge! RAWR.
People call me Kit or TK (online anyway). I'm an animal science major going to school to train exotic animals (with a focus on big cats and hyenas - I'm the coolest crazy cat lady you'll ever meet). I'm a nerd/geek/dork/loser extraordinaire from comic books to videos games to reading to TV/movies. I'm overly enthusiastic over the most ridiculous things (like yesterday when I got a 15% off coupon for Souplantation!) and in a constant state of confusion over the human condition.
I'm single because I'm not actively searching for a partner. I'm not screaming happy about being single, but I'm not unhappy, though I'm not opposed to being in a relationship... I guess I just see it as "what happens will happen" and until then I'm cool chilling with my cats. Of course part of it is my personality. I have a low tolerance for bull****. I won't be with someone that I don't consider smart. I'm laid back and practical to a fault (I think flowers and diamonds are stupid, but potatoes and gift cards are great).
I look for a partner that is active, driven, knows what he wants out of life and is on his path to get there, has a healthy libido, is logical and it'd great if he was abnormally tall (6'2"+) though I suppose that's not mandatory.
Nice to meet you!
So tell me, what's your "ish"?

My name is Jon. I am 32 years old, graduated college in 2002 with degrees in Management Information Systems and Computer Science. I work in IT sales and have been in the industry since I was 18. I played basketball in college but don't play much anymore due to knee issues. Something that can't be derived from pictures is that I'm nearly 7 feet tall. I'm single because I choose to be. I spent years taking care of someone and the selfish side of me enjoys only have to worry about myself. I can be inpatient at times but found that I can use this as an asset in my career as it tends to lead me to drive to solutions faster. I don't adhere to traditional gender roles when it comes to relationships and would like to find a partner that feels the same. I believe that two people should do things for each other because they want to; not because society tells them they have to. I have two younger twin sisters. One is in medical school and the other works in IT as well. I'm going through tough times with my family right now and leverage MFP as a way to stay healthy and receive and give support.0

Jon, for some reason I thought you were in sales. I may have made that up. I do that sometimes.0

My name is Jill. I live on the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii (yes, we have concrete buildings and running water!) I am the music director at a parochial school. I service 400 + students weekly. I teach students the basics of music, songs, choreography (I choreograph, they dance...) and I run the Christmas Program and May Day program.
I have always been involved in the performing arts, which is how I landed this position. I have a BEd in elementary ed, and am certificated in SpEd as well. I am trained in baller, hula, jazz, and modern dance.
I am 5' 4 3/4", so my doctor says to put 5'5". I was married for almost 8 years, my husband died 10 years ago of double pneumonia and a kidney infection (which infected the entire body.) I have 2 teens.
Why am I single... sigh.... I'm picky. :P yes, it takes a real man to fill my heart and soul. Deep inside... I think I'm still scared. It will take a real man to stand up to me and make me realize how much I want, desire, need, him in my life as my husband.
I have a list... but I'm not going to box myself in... I am open to changes..0 -

I am. IT Sales.0 -

You would definitely look like a giant standing by me, I'm only 4-10.......lol.
Will be back later and add about me.0 -
Hiya Jill! Hawaii sounds great, I love a lot of the wildlife they have out there
Jon - ah yes... that makes a lot of sense.
fnh66 - looking forward to it!0 -
My name is Tricia & I'm 23. I've got a BBA in Finance and will be graduating with my MBA in December. I'm an outdoorsy-girl; love the beach, river, lake... If I had the time/resources, I would road-trip a whole lot more. I spend most of my free time at concerts (particularly Texas country) or at local events (baseball, football, hockey games).
I'm single because I tend to push guys away once they show an interest in me. I was overweight for so long (until I was 20, really) that I have a hard time getting physically close to guys, even though I am more confident than ever before. I'm also AWFUL at flirting haha.
Sense of humor is what I'm most attracted to. I like to "imitate" people (voices, actions, etc) and I expect to get made fun of as well; that's how my family is; you gotta dish it & be able to take it! I'm incredibly impatient and slightly stubborn but easy to talk to and love to listen & give advice.0 -
Most call me Stepz, but my given name is Lori. I'm 30 and live in a tiny town in southern Missouri. My BS is in engineering (2005). I spent 5 years in Las Vegas working in safety and emergency management for the feds. Now I am a graduate student transitioning between Masters and PhD programs. My research is on managing complexity in large scale organizations by using engineering modeling methods.
I have one dog, a boston terrier named Gypsy. I also have a 5 year old niece I kidnap when I need some play time. I like hiking and just being out in nature. I'm glad I moved back to the Ozarks... this environment is fitting for my personality and preferences. I'm about half geek, half redneck.0 -
"I'm also AWFUL at flirting haha. " Ahahaha, you and me both Tricia
Dang Lori! That sounds really impressive! I would not have the attention span for engineering0 -
Hi all! My name is Kim and I'm a 35 year old divorced mom to two beautiful kids. I was married for 12 years, and after 8 years of emotional abuse and a Bacehlor's Degree in hand I decided I had had enough.
I'm single because I choose to be without than have to deal with all the bs most men bring into my life. I love to be active, bike, run, workout or just play with my (young) kids. Now vacations are a different story.....stick my on a beach and I'm in heaven.
That's probably enough about me for now. Since I've been dragged out of lurkdom you might see lots more of me around here. :devil:0 -

I'd love to know why women do that? Doesn't make any sense.0 -
I'm Jen 31 Leo. I've been a nurse for over 12 years and I'm currently the UR nurse at a forensic pysch facility. I have a black belt in Tae Kwan Do and colloct weapons. Im also a huge nerd and enjoy all things sci-fi/fantesy. I love action movies and football. I'm single because I broke up with my ex a little over a year ago after being tired of taking care of him (both fincially and emotionally). I'm also used to the role reversal in relationships because I have a tendency to make more than my significant others.
I want a guy who gets my sense of humor (I'm very sarcastic and off the wall sometimes) is taller than me. Likes rock music and sports (football). I also have a weakness for tattoos and peircings. If he has a dorky side thats even better..0 -

I'd love to know why women do that? Doesn't make any sense.
I can't speak for all women, but my issue is weight related. I'm still not comfortable with myself physically, so my mindset is "why even try to get closer?" I know I need to change this though, which is one reason I'm on this site0 -
Tall Jon is tall... my dad is 6'8, and my ex is 6'10. I feel for ya. Makes shopping a pain...0

If I'm not mistaken it's usually also related to trust/confidence issues. Then there are also some women that are playing games and just want to see if they can get a guy interested.0 -

That's the idea! I'm outing everyone!0 -
Hi there,my name is Carl and I hope I am not too annoying, just tend to be opinionated sometimes.0

Hi, my name is Freida. I'm 45 and have been divorced for 3 years. My daughter is 19. I'm an administrative assistant (over paid secretary) at a Propane Co and then work parttime at an "outdoor world" store.I'm single because I tend to push guys away once they show an interest in me.
I'd love to know why women do that? Doesn't make any sense.

This is one of the reasons I'm still single. I'm still working on myself and not happy with me so I don't know why anyone else would be but being single doesn't bother me. I'm not one of those that HAS to have someone and I like to be able to go and do what I want, when I want.
Hmmmmm, let's see what else. Oh, I have a cute little Chihuahua named Duke.
Guess that's about it.0 -
My name is Michelle - Mickey is my nickname that was given to me at birth. 36, in Michigan. I am a Loss Prevention Manager for a major home improvement retailer, been at the company for 8 years. Not really sure what else to say except I love hockey and college football. Played roller derby until an injury sidelined me (injury + break up = huge weight gain). I have 7 tattoos. 5'7"
As far as what I'm looking for, well taller than me, the taller the better. Sense of humor is a must. Sensitive but not a pushover or cling-on, confident but not cocky, have the ability to carry on a decent coversation about things other than sports (although I do love sports, I also like to talk about books, movies, current events, even politics), and just be a decent guy. A nice smile and eyes are a plus.
I have responded to a couple of things on the board, so I'm not a complete lurker. Definitely not as active as a lot of people on here though.
Oh and anyone can feel free to add me as a friend :flowerforyou:0 -
great if he was abnormally tall (6'2"+)...you can't see in pictures that I'm nearly 7feet tall....
I'm just sayin............:bigsmile:0 -
Hello, my name is Janie, and I'm an MFP Addict. Single military mom. Likes active, outdoorsy things (camping, snowboarding, body-boarding). Single b/c I wanna be (it's a lot easier and a lot more fun than being in a bad relationship) but open to finding someone special in the future.0

Hello! My name is Julie, I am 32 and live in Southern Ontario. I work full time in a dental office. I enjoy my job which helps the days go by.
I have no complaints being single and am really in no rush to get into a relationship. Taking things as they come I guess and focusing on me for a while, it was LONG overdue0 -
Name is Edward and I'm 25 going on 26 soon. I'm a computer nerd who really loves video games especially RPGs and reading. I'm a Computer Science graduate and am currently a Software Developer. I've been pretty much single all my life as sad as it sounds... Never really had any confidence but I hope I am on the right track to restoring that. Let's see.. I'm only 5'8 so not really that tall. Average I guess. I'm also bulking and trying to add some muscle so that I can look better and not all skinny-fat. That's the most of it I guess.0

My name is Andria (my screen name is my name backwards) and I'm 30, I have a 7 year old little boy, and I sell insurance in Casper, WY. I was married for just over 7 years, and I'm single because I didn't like his girlfriend(s), so for my 27th birthday I filed for divorce. I have dated, but I stay single because I'm really really really picky now and I don't want to settle and end up in an unhappy marriage again.
I am very musical, but my primary instruments are my voice and piano. I love down comforters and really nice sheets. I love traveling and have been to 13 countries. I lived in Germany for 3 years and my son was born there. I adore chocolate. I suck at sports---all of them.0 -
I'll chime in! My name if Kristen and I'm 45. I've never been married and I have a 22 year old daughter (yep...that does happen!). I've been her sole provider and now that she's an adult, I've come to realize I need to work on myself. My first step was working on my mind...I went back to school and finally earned my bachelor's degree last year. Now it's time for the body--and that's why I'm here.
I've worked for a chemical manufacturing company for the past 13 years in an administrative role--supporting our distributors. I like my job alot, but have been thinking about moving on to something I would love jumping out of bed for when the alarm goes off in the morning. I love my job when I'm out and about traveling...I less then love it when I'm sitting behind the desk all day. And...I especially LOVE traveling when it's for personal (fun) time. I work to live / not live to work. I like my play time.
Not sure why I'm still single--I guess because I have dedicated the last 22 years raising my daughter. Now I guess I'm single (I think) because at my age I know I can take care of myself and won't settle for anything less then what I want. That doesn't mean I'm overly picky...heck, I don't know what that means!
So that's me in a brief nutshell. Looking forward to making some MFP friends on here!0 -
Hi I am Ruth I am 35. I have pretty much been single my whole life as I keep getting into long distance relationships that tend to have a lot of build up and then fall flat. I probably should see a shrink about that. I was born and raised in MN and moved to NC/SC 8 years ago. I was heavy ever since I got out of college (I gained 30lbs in my last semester) and my self confidence hit rock bottom. Until 2 years ago when I started losing weight I was unhappy with my life and no guy is attracted to someone that has no self confidence and is unhappy with everything. So it is just recently that I have actually gotten back in the dating game.
My perfect day would be sitting on a dock in Northern MN/WI on a sunny summer day with a cold beer, cheese curds and baseball on the radio.0 -
Let's see here, the name is Craig and I'm 32. I have a BSCE in Civil Engineering from a small liberal arts college. My stuff lives in Massachusetts and I tend to live out of a suitcase. Finishing up my last night in South Carolina with no idea where I am going next after a small rest at home. I oversee the installation of airport terminal radar systems.
I have a 5 year old Corgi/Pekingese who is beyond spoiled. And like 2 stepz, I've been known to kidnap my 18 month old niece. Especially when I want an excuse to do stuff I loved as a kid, or just get her wound up and send her home to my sister as payback for being a pest when we were kids.
Numerous reasons why I am still single. I am never home, I'm like wicked short, Until about 2 years ago, I was really overweight, I definitely had a lot of self confidence issues when younger when it came to dating, and I technically live with my parents (moved back in a couple years ago after being laid off, and now just don't see the point of spending $1500+ monthly for a place I'd only use 7 nights or so a month, and they take care of my dog when I'm gone. Oh, and I've been known to be a judgmental stubborn prick.
I spend a lot of time watching sports (hockey, lacrosse, baseball, football, rugby, soccer), at the gym, and seeing as much new stuff as possible on the weekends when traveling.0 -
I'm Kandi. I'm originally from the midwest, have lived in several different states, and about 15 years ago ended up in Florida where I've been ever since. I'm 42, divorced, and mom to one daughter. I have worked in inventory management in one form or another for the last 20 years. I love what I do and I tend to work way too much, which explains why I don't date much. I'm generally content with life though I do miss certain things about having a man around. I prefer beer over wine, would choose a barbeque over fine dining any day, and am utterly clueless about pop culture but can rattle off historical facts like a pro.0

My name is Kayla and I'm 21. I'll be graduating in May with a bachelors in speech pathology. I love it, but I'm not sure if I want to do it for the rest of my life. I love reading, being by the beach on nice days, writing... I almost got my black belt in karate but had to leave for school. I'm single right now because after my last relationship I've realized I enjoy being single. I'm not really searching for anything either, but I wouldn't be opposed if it were to happen.0

Hi all, my name is Lauren and I'm 27 years old. I work and play in NYC and am just enjoying my twenties right now0
