Mt. Bike Shorts

I'm looking for a pair of Mt. Bike shorts that are not going to break the bank, the frustrating part is why does this stuff cost so much money REALLY for a nice pair of fitting shorts I gotta pay $90 or more? So, let's get this straight, on my $90 - $130 pair of shorts I'm going to get GU, peanut butter and jelly, dirt, snot, spilled beer, and yes maybe poo, horse poo, dog poo, squirrel poo, bovine poo, and yes maybe my poo if I'm attempting a technical steep downhill that scares the crap out of me. So, if any of you girls out there know where I can get a decent, cost effective pair of Mt. Bike shorts please let me know.

I hear ya, girl! The places I usually hit up are:
Sierra Trading Post
Nashbar (even have a returned goods section that's 1/3 off unworn items)
Performance Bike
Pricepoint
Altrec
And of course, EBAY
What about everyone else?0 -
For the love of god, someone please tell me too. I refuse to pay up the butt for something that will potentially get covered in gross and torn to shreds. Oh, and just to be needy, nothing pink or flowery.0

Look online at the manufacturer sites. I am a big fan of high quality shorts. **** or no ****, I gotta protect Virginia! Look at Voler, Sugoi, Pearl Izumi and even Primal wear for closouts.0

I always look for sales at the end of the season to get me through the next season. Right now, my favorites are a pair of capris by SheBeast and a pair of knee-length baggies from North Face. I got them both on sale at two different shops... one locally, and one while traveling.
If I have time, I try to hit up a bike shop or two any time that I travel. The more you shop, the more likely you are to find good deals. I did just buy a pair last week.
I don't mind paying a bit more for a pair that'll be comfortable and not chew up my tail, but if I can find them on sale, that's even better. And I've never destroyed a pair of shorts (and I'm hard on things) + everything I get on them seems to wash out, so maybe paying more means they actually stand up to stuff.
Now what I want to know is... why is the waist so dang big on all the baggies I find? If the liners fit, the over-shorts gap at my waist like no other. I actually have a belt now that I wear for mountain biking and it solves the problem, but I just don't get it!
*** Edited to say: while I own some shorts that were originally priced $90-130 or more, I didn't pay that for them. Probably the most I've ever paid is $80.
Also, there's a brand of shorts called Jett that has a great range of sizes (number sizes, not just SML) and seems to be a bit cheaper than other retail prices.0
