What do you look for in a Personal Trainer?

Hi guys

I am looking to get into personal training and have done some to see if i have any talent. I have not had any negative comments so far, but have had constructive feedback.

May i ask what you would expect from a trainer?

-Appearance?
-Experience?
-Manners?
-Organised?
-Timekeeping?

I'll post this in the main forum too, i am just looking for feedback.

I've been told to look for someone who looks like the shape you want to look like. So if you want to build muscles, speak to someone who is deadlifting twice your weight rather than someone who asks, "Is that when you lift coffins?"

hi, i’m a qualified nutritionist and i find its not helpful to tell people what they want to hear thus lessoning the blow of what they really should be hearing, sparing their feelings is not constructive, so honesty in a non judgmental way is essential. good luck with it all, let us all know how it goes x

I think you need to add motivational to your list, they're going to hit a wall at some point and you need to be able to spot it and help them through, you also need to get them fired up for a good workout and also make sure they're looking forward to every session.

Hi, I've never used a personal trainer before but I would go for someone who looked fit enough to put me through my paces!! Also someone motivational who could give advice on diet and fitness.
    Hope that's helpful.

Personal recommendations and they have nutrition knowledge.

Also try and be cheeky and as for a free trail off a few in your gym. You never know.

Funnily enough I was looking for one last night (to train me lol! If only I was that fit!) I was looking for someone who will be upfront and honest but not rude! Someone who will push me hard but not to the point where I would give up! And also I know you guys need to earn your money but some I looked at we're charging £60 per hour (I closed those sites!) it needs to be expensive enough to get the most out of your sessions but cheap enough for it to be maintainable! Have you ever watched 'obese- a year to change my life' ....well I'd love a trainer like him (but not as good looking or I'd never do anything lol!) good luck!
