Nice, likewise. And I haven't listened to Living Sacrifice in so long! My machine shop teacher got me into them in High school. And I got to see Mastodon and Iron Maiden at Ozzfest '05 and As I lay Dying on Sounds of the Underground.0

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahhaaaa
I'm sure there are exceptions, but for the most part I have to agree.0 -
Oh good, "Metal", that huge archtype that nobody agrees on
.
I don't think I have a top 10, let's see:
1) Tristania
2) The Crown
3) At The Gates
Um.
Well, that's about it I think.
Edit: Oh, wait, Behemoth are good too!
Edit 2: Oh, and Finntroll.0 -

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Just because metal isn't as mainstream as it was back then doesn't make any bands less relevant. Between the Buried and Me and Knights of the Abyss are amazing musicians with great skills and an very good understanding of music theory. But take a look at bands like Slipknot and Slayer - they got their fame from the image they sold to their fans, not their music....0 -

aww come on thatdude, don't be so old & grumpy (-; it takes a little searching but there are a couple of gems in the rough out there. i think commercialism has killed most of our ability to find good modern tunage.
classic will always be classic. hair metal will always be our true forefathers. (-; probably started with black sabbath, dio, scorpions, mr. big, etc etc... (love those guys!)0 -

im not sure how you could put sabbath, dio, scorps mr big in the same sentance....they alone hit 4 different sub genres.
What do u mean by commmercialism?0 -

What do u mean by commmercialism?
by commercialism i mean that the record companies & media have target audiences & budgets, therefore agendas. so they have to put bands on the easy-access market that predictable majorities will purchase music, tickets, & merch from. makes a lot of real talent out there get overlooked and stay underground.
true, they do hit different sub-genres, but they're all still classic. who are your faves? and why did you pick 1998 as your cut-off?0 -
