2012 Proud Lake Sunset Canoe Paddle

This popular event is great for the experienced paddler as well as the novice.
Come to Proud Lake and paddle either a canoe or a kayak into the setting sun.
Walk into Milford for dinner or dessert before continuing to paddle. When you
return to the canoe rental, a bonfire will be awaiting you. No partner
necessary, all skill levels welcome. Dress for the weather, including headlamps
and water bottles.


Sat May 5 ~ Hike time: 5:30, Kayak Class: 6:00, Sunset Paddle start time: 7:45
meet.

Sat June 2 ~ Hike time: 6:00, Sunset Paddle time: 8:00 meet

Sat. Jun 23 ~ Hike time: 6:00, Sunset paddle: 8:00 meet. This is a Solstice
paddle from Proud Lake campground to Heavner Canoe. Dessert provided at the
dam. Bring a sack dinner since we will not go to downtown Milford.

Sat July 7 ~ Hike time: 6:00, Sunset paddle: 8:00 meet.

Sat Aug 4, ~ Hike time: 5:30, Sunset paddle: 7:45 meet

Fri, August 31~ Hike time: 5:00, Sunset paddle: 7:00 meet. This is the night of

the Faux Blue Moon, so we will go on Friday instead. It's also Labor Day
weekend.

Sat Sep 29 ~ Hike time: 4:00, Sunset paddle: 6:15 meet

Sat October 27~ Hike time: 3:00, Sunset paddle: 5:15 meet

Extra #1: Come to Proud Lake 2 hours before the paddle for a hike on the trails
at Proud Lake. Meet at the parking lot at the trailhead on Park Headquarters
Road.
Extra #2: Kayak instruction Matt Dalton will offer a class prior to some of
these paddles. Registration required for the kayak classes. Contact Matt for
info.
Extra #3: Children under 17 with a parent who has paid can get the kayak class
and the sunset paddle for free through "No Child Left Inside." Contact Matt
Dalton <mdalton@...> for information.
Extra #4: For those who would like some canoe basics, please come 30 minutes
early for some paddling tips.


Location: Meet at Heavner Canoe Rental ~2775 Garden Road - Milford, Michigan
48381 for the paddle, the classes and the hikes.
Cost: Canoe or Kayak $25 per person. Includes boat rental (canoe or kayak),
bonfire.
Bonfire only (bring your own boat) $5 per person.

From Detroit:
Take 96 west toward Lansing until you get to the Wixom exit (#159). Turn right
and follow the signs
to the Proud Lake Recreation area. When you get to the T-stop, turn left. Go
around the curve
and turn left on Garden Road.

    I LOVE kayaking at Heavner and would love more details about these events. Especially the one coming up at the end of August. PLEASE let me know more details this is really something I would like to do :-)
