ugh - a rough month for me in the emotional venue (my dad died on may 11 of 2002) but we always get through. usually the nice weather balances the internal storm. anyhoo, i will not be starting off the month at the gym because my left foot and right calf are *killing* me from trying to spin around barefoot on a dance floor while fairly drunk. who knew? one more day, and i'll give it a go tomorrow, though i don't know if i'm going to go offer up my pain to psycho lady or not - maybe just a nice, tame elliptical machine! hope everyone has a great week!

    Happy May!

Good luck at your half vendy, you will do great!

Chan I'm glad to hear you are making it through ok - I agree with Sarah, its may so smile!

I am getting sick - my throat was hurting a bit this morning and its just gotten worse and worse as the day goes on. Ack. Its doing that thing now where the hurting moves up into your mouth? :(:(:(

I just downed a zinc supplement and an Emergen-C packet. I'll have another emergen-C tonight before bed? Or maybe I should wait until tomorrow morning...rahhhh I dunno. I better go dig out my sick person sweats and settle in. I *will* be on a plane to hawaii on Friday no matter HOW I feel so hopefully how I feel is MUCH BETTER.

Debating if it would be best to do a little exercise or to completely rest. I'm never sure.

Tameko there is no harm in taking like 5 of those emergen C packs a day. they recommend no more than 2 but even my doctor said as long as you don't take 5 packs a day for 6 months - just do it while you are feeling sick or flu-like, you are fine.

    some of my goals

    Train puppy
    keep house clean
apply for job at a gym
do something awesome with my guy (not sure what yet, but he deserves an awesome outing)
    GRADUATE omg
prep foods and eat well this month (at least the last half)
continue stage 2 of new rules of lifting for women (not at the same gym)

hopefully this stage, like the previous one, will end up with me losing inches. even more hopeful, maybe I will lose weight instead of gain it during the stage haha

Oh good to know, thanks! So I can just DROWN myself in it for a few days...although right now my stomach is upset, so I don't want to risk another packet. PRobably because I took the zinc and drank the emergen-c on an empty tummy

    Yeah Sarah graduates!! Woohoo!

Chan, I know it is rough but just concentrate on all the happy memories of your Dad.

Tameko, Have fun in Hawaii! Will your self well! That is what I did on my 30th birthday weekend. I was sick as a dog but REFUSED to give and had a blast, even though I was running a fever the whole time (at least I think I was). I couldn't talk to the whole weekend so I had to write everything on a notepad. IT was quite funny actually. Fell better!!!!

I am going to attempt a 10 day cleanse (and yes I get to eat. It basically is just to kick start me back in to better eating habits. No coffee, alcohol, dairy or processed food for 10 days!) I will miss the coffee but know I can do this. I will just have to be the one that does the shopping for awhile (I loathe shopping, of any kind). :D I will keep doing this. I will succeed!
I am excited about the 1/2 this weekend! WOOHOO! Bring it ON!

Wow, lots of great things going on for everyone! Yay! Sarah, congrats on graduating! Vendy, good luck on the 1/2 marathon. I'm always amazed by anyone that can run that far. It's all I can do to finish a 5 K. Stacy, I hope your foot/leg is better. That sure was a fun reception!

I'm having a good month so far. Weight training is going well. Just for fun, I tried lifting the amount of weight I did at a competition in 2007 when I set a regional record in the strict curl event, and I was able to do it! And that's without specifically training for that event and weighing 25 lbs. less than I did then. Woohoo! We found out last night that my husband passed the physical therapist assistant licensure exam and can start his job on Monday. We're both very stoked.

Had some blood work done and found out that I'm vitamin B12 deficient. I had been extremely tired, was having balance problems, numb white fingers, and my hair was starting to fall out. It was very scary. Since I've started taking a high dose supplement and eating vitamin fortified nutritional yeast, I've felt sooo much better. I've been reading up on vitamin B12 and talking with a friend who knows a lot about vitamins. I never realized how important that vitamin is and how seriously messed up you can get if your stores of it get low.

    Have a great May, everyone!

Official Time for the Flying Pig Half Marathon: 3:31:32. 8 minutes better than last year, .15 seconds slower than my personal best. Injuries this year, chafted arms. On the mend already. It was a nice warm day.
Turns out my bosses wife walked it in under 3 hours! Granted she is a lot more fit than I am and about 60 pounds lighter. :D

About mile 10 I was thinking "yeah this is the last one for me". This morning I was thinking "I could do it again." Ahh the thoughts of pain while in the moment. This course is brutal!

I took the morning off bootcamp to let myself recover some more. I now have 3 half marathon medals. One day, when we finally get our house (hopefully in June), I will buy frames and get them all up! :D

    Have a great week everyone!

Thanks Basschick! It was fun. My body will tell you differently while actually walking mile 10-13.1 but yes I would do it again.

Update, my bosses wife ran half of it, which I suspected consider she did it in under 3 hours. She was hurting! It was funny when they came into work. They looked at me and said, "sore?" I replied "Not as much as I should be." My right knee is stiff but it has been stiff for a few months. I need to get better about stretching it out more.

And the scale FINALLLY dropped this morning. 1.3 pounds. :D

hey, everyone! been pretty slack recently and out with a gimp foot for the last couple of weeks. i know i could have been working on strength training, but i'm such a calorie snob that i trip to the gym isn't worth it for me unless i burn at least 400 calories. perhaps that's a mindset i'll have to work on altering!

just came clean with my weight - i'm up to 197.8 pounds, and that sucks. my lowest last summer was 188, but that moved back up to 193-ish pretty quick, and i've stayed there for the better part of a year. so now i have to get these recent pounds moved (which i'm hoping won't be too much of a hassle), and i would *really* like to break the notorious 193 and get back into the 180's sometime this century. so as of today, i'm back to the grind.

happy monday to you! make it work for you!

Alright ladies... My bootcamp ends Friday and I have FINALLY seen some improvement! Lost and inch in waist and what I call my "love handles" (because let me tell you they are huge handles above my hips). I also have lost a couple of pounds.

The next session of bootcamp doesn't start until June so I have two weeks to work on my own however we are now in the process of buying a house so my dilemma is money. I am sure I can pay for the next bootcamp but coming up with this down payment money is stressing me out (we have the money but I just stress when I have to pay others HUGH chunks of money and that means anything over 500 bucks and I fret).

I like the ladies I am training with and I like the trainers. There is a class that is similar that is next door but I don't feel they really have as much personal attention as we get in bootcamp. Sigh. If try to go back to just the trainer it is still more expensive.

I guess I need to talk to my hubby about it. I wonder if the trainers will take installments....hmmmm.

Stacy-Good to see you jumping back in after the bum foot.
Basschick-How you feeling? Hope you are still feeling good.

Has anyone heard from Ms V (wa_teacher)?

congrats on the half and the losses vendy! what did you change (if anything) to start seeing some improvement?

Chan - I actually find that strength training seems to burn about the same number as moderate cardio but it won't show up on your HRM, its all afterburn. So you might see a 200 calorie burn for 30 minutes but its really a 300 calorie burn with the afterburn (this varies by person and by what you do though).

and then of course the life long burn of having more muscle.

and then of course the life long burn of having more muscle.

I started this "cleanse" that my trainer did. Basically I cut out most processed foods, ie white flour, sugar, cheeses, dairy products etc. It is eating food all in there original state or close too. Lean meats etc. It last 10 days. Of course burning almost 4,000 calories on my 1/2 helped jump start it! :D (Granted I counted the walk to the start and after to the car in my count.) It is just a way to help me make better choices. I was eating badly and I just couldn't admit it to myself.
It has a whole product line but all I got was the energy drink and fiber packets with some of their vitamins. I think my husband I eat out too much so I wasn't controlling my intake very well. I have only been out to eat once in the last two weeks and my waiter looked at me crazy because I ordered a salad with only a large lemon on the side (for the dressing) and a grilled chicken breast with no bun. Not to mention all stuff on the side. I watched my husband consume mushrooms (he asked if he could before he ordred them). They were drenched in cheese and gooey goodness. They looked yummy but I resisted. :D

Hi Ladies! Vendy, good for you for cleaning up your diet. I've made major changes to mine over the last few years but I don't think I could ever go all the way clean. I definitely see the value though in quitting some foods cold turkey to reduce your cravings for them.

The nerve damage I had has been completely reversed and I feel like my brain is working normally again. I'm still a little tired but for a different reason. I'd rather be tired from exercise than a stupid vitamin deficiency! It's been a month since I started intense, heavy weight training and I'm loving the results. Tameko, you're so right about the afterburn. I rarely burn more than 200 calories now in any of my workouts and I'm frequently going over my calorie goal, but my weight is staying the same (which is what I wanted), and I've lost a 1/2 inch off my waist and a 1/2 inch off my belly. My arms are starting to show some nice definition too.

Like Chans said, you have to alter your mindset. I'm sure all my MFP friends think I've completely fallen off the wagon when they see me going over calories all the time, taking days off from working out (recovery days), and not burning many calories. I don't get any congratulatory comments to my posts anymore like I used to. I have to remind myself that I'm doing this for me and not for anyone else's approval.

Enjoy the rest of your month and keep on keepin' on!

BC - I actually have those notifications turned off. It was kind of annoying/depressing me to get all the "its ok! tomorrow is a new day" type messages when I went over because going over really doesn't worry/upset me. I know how much wiggle room I have to go over. I rarely even log my exercise these days, I just log my food.

I was over by 400 one day and was SUPER proud that I logged all my food in. One of my good friends posts "well... at least you logged...." and it really hurt my feelings for some reason.

That morning I was 152.6. The next day I got on the scale and it said 147.6. I must have done something right at some point hahah :)

I don't like to post my diary completions because of comments like that, not because people mean anything by it per se, but because usually they don't "get" where I am with my diary. Like I've got through phases where I've ALWAYS been over and its totally ok with me because for whatever reason it still fits into my plan, but people will leave me tons of encouraging comments and I'm like "no guys, its cool, I don't care about the red."

Good for you by the way - I really subscribe to the idea that just logging is what matters. Even if you eat 2000 calories over your 'goal' for the day, the worst you've done is maybe not have a deficit that week, you know? But its good to have the knowledge of what it was, and sometimes I think we think we were 'worse' than we really were. Like you'll totally pig out and think "omg that was sooo bad" and then its only 500 over.

Yes I'm still around...sorry ladies that I haven't been posting here. Sarah nailded it...school is insane right now. We just finished up our state testing and this month is full of reports and parent conferences. I've had a hard time keeping my head above water and I am sorry to say that the stress got to me and I did smoke this weekend. But this is just a small step backwards and I am not giving up.

Hope you're all enjoying the long weekend. I am putting work aside today and getting out to go to a street fair and maybe a movie.

Welcome back to the boards, V! My end of year has been crazy too. Two more student performances tomorrow, graduation is this Friday, and next Tuesday, I'm out for the summer! Woohoo!!

I'm still lifting heavy and loving it and have been experimenting with my calorie intake. Lifting has definitely sped up my metabolism, so I've set my calories for "lightly active" even though I have a sedentary job. This gives me an extra 130 calories a day and seems to be working better for me. I'm still maintaining but I don't get as hungry. I've also changed my protein intake from 15% to 20%. We'll see how that goes.

In other news, I got a friend request on here a week and a half ago from a 62 year old retired male physician with 400+ friends, most of them young, beautiful women with sexy profile pics. When I Googled his name, I found articles about accusations against him in 2008 for "sexual improprieties with patients." Ewww. I reported him to the moderators and he's now gone. Be careful who you accept requests from -- there are some creepy people on here.

    Happy Memorial Day to everyone!

How is May almost over?! Didn't I just walk the 1/2 marathon? Wow.

Well I managed to drop 2lbs this month. Maybe 3. I haven't been good about logging weight loss recently. Very SLOW but steady down it goes. I need to add in more cardio for June I think.

Come June 4th I start bootcamp again and I think I just need to add in Jillian as well.
