Hey Ladies
My name is Aubrey and I'm 24 years old. I have a husband and a 4 year old son, we live just east of Atlanta, GA. Here is my story:
My husband and I had our son in December of 2007 and then at my 6 week check-up I got Mirena inserted. I just got Mirena removed on April 5th of this year and now am being told that it sounds like I have PCOS. Before finding this out we planned on TTC this August, we still are planning that but in the back of my mind I'm a little bummed because I know it probably won't be as easy to get pregnant anymore. I believe having Mirena for 4 years has caused me to develope PCOS, as I've NEVER had any of these symptoms before Mirena. I think I suffer from all of the PCOS symptoms So at my visit to the OB/GYN on April 5th her words were "it sounds like you have PCOS". So we aren't for sure yet, but most likely. I had blood work done, everything came back fine except my testosterone was barely elevated and I have to go back in July to get that checked again. Since my visit at the beginning of the month I have been more careful about what I eat and I try to do some sort of exercise every day. So far on MFP I've list about 10lbs, 1.4 since last Monday (I weigh every Monday). I did get a medium flow period on April 6th and it lasted 5 days. I think around the 21st I finally experienced ovulation...I don't think I've ever felt it before (being on Mirena, you cramp, bleed, periods dissapprear, all at random times) so I think I was ovulating, I felt crampy for 3 days and had a glob of pink EWCM one time, so I'm assuming ovulation? So I guess I am expecting my period in just a few days then right? My husband and I are not TTC right now so we are using the dreaded condoms lol, but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do! I'd like to lose more weight so that I can have a healthy pregnancy and baby when it comes time to TTC this August. Have any of you ladies gotten pregnant with PCOS without having to try for a year or more? Before we found out about me possibly having PCOS we were really hoping to get pregnant before the end of the year, so the baby would be due in a warm weather month. I guess all I can do is hope and pray that everything will work out for the best. Could I just have elevated testosterone without PCOS? Could that just be the result of Mirena, and maybe it will be back down in July whe I go back? What were the steps of you ladies finding out you had it for sure? So far the blood work is all I've had, no U/S. Oh, and I am 5'1" and currently weight 175 lbs. (obese for my heirght, so I am working towards a healthy BMI!)
SORRY that is so long, thank you if you read the whole thing!!

Hello! :flowerforyou:
First, great job on your weight loss so far! It's really a journey in itself to lose weight and become the person you want to be. Having PCOS makes it a little harder. Have you had your thyroid hormones checked? If you haven't, make sure they check more than just your TSH... that's just from my experience. Might be worth checking out with an endocrinologist.
I'm sorry about your diagnosis... When I was told I was polycistic, I was super bummed because me and my husband want to conceive. I nerded out and bought a few books about PCOS, and it seems as though there are a few ways to conceive. #1 is to lose the weight! Other things include getting on Metformin, but you'll need to talk to your doctor/OBGYN.0 -
Yep, when I did blood work they checked my glucose, thyroid,testosterone...a few other things I can't remember, but everything came back normal except the testosterone and thay said it was just a little bit elevated. When I go back for blood work in July I want to also talk to my doctor again and see what the next steps will be if the results come back still elevated, or if they are normal what the outcome is. I'm just a little lost right now since I don't realy know if I have it for sure or not0

I'm praying that you don't have it. It's not an easy road to walk down, but if you do, you can ask me anything you need to know.0

They based my PCOS diagnosis on more than just elevated testosterone. Mine wasn't super high or anything, but it was higher than normal. They also based it on the ratio between two other hormones: Lutenizing Hormone and Follicle Stimulating Hormone. My ratio was like 2.5:1 They also did an ultrasound and saw that I had several cysts on each ovary. I hope yours comes back as a fluke testosterone reading! Otherwise it doesn't seem like you're too affected. I hope you two can conceive quickly0
