Tracking Calories Burned

I have a question about how you all are determining the calories you burn doing TF. I do not have a body bug, or any other type of tracker. What I have been doing is using the "Kickboxing (Including TurboJam)" option for cardio and logging in the number of minutes I work out each morning. I am never sure if this is accurate or not.
I would appreciate any thoughts you may want to share.
Thanks, Denise

My heart rate monitor tells me how many calories I burn when I work out...it is a Polar Ft40

Really, the only way you are going to get a close estimate is to get a heart rate monitor or something like a BodyMedia Fit or Body Bugg. I think using the kickboxing option that you are using is the closest thing that MFP's database offers you, but it is an average so it could be very different from what you are really burning.0

Thank you both for the input! I will have to look into a hear rate monitor if I become too concerned I guess.0

I have the polar Ft4 also. Its very motivating to work out with it. It took me a long time to bite the bullet and buy one but so glad I did.0

I recently got a NB heart monitor (which I love by the way!). I've noticed that my calorie burn from the HR monitor is about 10% less than what MFP estimates for me. However, I have a low resting heart rate (less than 60 bpm, and sometimes less than 50!!), so I think that's why my calorie burn is a bit lower than the database shows; as the HRM estimates calories burned based on heart rate. In general, the database numbers are pretty good.0

I always calculate minutes with 'Aerobics, high impact' which i think is really close when i do TF workouts. The book with the program says that you burn an average of 650cals/day. but everyone is different. I don't have a HRM and that is how i track it.0
