My goals are currently set at 1.5 pounds a week, and I have effectively lost about 1.75 pounds per week. I am generally a few thousand calories a week under goal.
On Biggest Loser they drop a whole lotta weight, very fast. I am considering the theory that if you have over 90 pounds left to lose you can safely drop it faster than 2 pounds a week. Doing this for a while could move my long term goal from September 2013 to something more like March 2013.
Do any of you have any experience with dropping weight quicker? Is it advisable? How do you run that kind of deficit without messing with your metabolism, or can you?
Again, just something I am considering. I kind of want to get some info before I make a decision.

I do not want to seem all preachy and I do not have all the answers but you need to lose it slowly and safely if you want to keep it off. The people on biggest loser are under doctors care and are constantly monitored plus I would bet many of them gain it back when they get back to the real world. We did not just wake up fat we got that way slowly over a long period of time, this is how we have to lose it as well. You have been doing great. My advice is stay the course.0

They are still eating a fair amount.
They take in around 2100-2800 calories per day to start, it is just that they exercise a LOT.

I guess it depends a lot from the people because I follow MFP guidelines, try to stay slightly under and lose an average of 5 lbs a week...0

I have averaged a 2 pound a week loss and that is going under my calories a little and usually not logging exercise. I never eat back my exercise calories, but sometimes I may go over on the weekend a little. That said, it seems like it is a struggle for me to lose the 2 I do. Some weeks I only lose like 1.5. I know it is just a number, but when you have a lot to lose it can be frustrating. I think I am annoyed because when I was younger, I lost 3 pounds a week easy. Now the two is such a struggle. I know it is going to take a long time, I would just like to be at my goal in around in year instead of almost two.
That said, personally I think quicker weight loss is okay if you are taking precautions to not lose muscle. I am not sure about 10 pounds a week..but 3 or 4 seem okay to me. Sad thing is, no matter how hard I try, its not happening for me and I don't plan to cut my calories anymore until MFP prompts me to.0 -
I seem to be losing about 3.5 lbs per week. My rule is to record everything food and exercise and try to net 1500 calories minimum. I'm not sure that there is any logic to what I'm doing, it just seems to be the amount of calories my body is happy with. The old "rule" used to be 1-2% per week is safe but newer seems to say 1-2lbs.
I expect that the weight loss will slow down as I get closer to my goal.
One concern I have is loose skin, I'm trying not to borrow problems but I would rather lose weight slower and have less loose skin at the end than reach some number on the scale faster and wind up needing a surgery to remove loose skin.
Good luck with what ever you decide.0
