Vegetarian Supplements (Joints)

Hey all,
I've been vego since January (was flexitarian for around 4 months prior to that) and I'm enjoying my new lifestyle change.
I've been through Insanity and am currently doing P90X and working on my distance running. I'm also looking to bump up my training in prep for Tough Mudder in September.
I've noticed recently that I'm having some stiffness / after ache in my joints, especially after a hard run. I'm investing in new shoes within the next couple of weeks so I'm hoping that will help.
I've recently looked into vegetarian glucosamine supplements and was wondering if anyone here had any success in using them? I have read that they are also more beneficial when combined with a fish oil, although that's hardly vegetarian now is it?
So have any of you guys or girls had a successful joint supplement / formula that has worked for you? Given the workouts and training I'm doing, I'm after something that's going to be fairly hefty. Also I don't want to just mask the ache, I want to protect my joints / ligaments rather than numbing it and pushing it aside.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My younger sister was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and she has tried taking everything under the medical books, but this last year, she switched to a holistic approach and who recommend she started using Turmeric Pills. After a few months, she says the swelling and pain in her joints has decreased exponentially. Try talking to your doctor about Turmeric as an option.0

haha, it's funny you mention that. My partner makes homemade supplements that have equal portions of: Tumeric, Cayenne Pepper (helps tumeric absorption), green tea, ginko and cinnamon.
I might have to see about upping the Tumeric component though, it really does sound like a wonder herb. Thanks for the info, I'm glad to hear your sister has gotten relief from it0 -
I started having knee pain when I got into competitive roller derby. I now take a glucosamine supplement and have noticed a big difference )0
