Hello! I'm new here. I am 7 months pp with a little girl, still nursing almost exclusively - she eats a meal of "people food" most days of the week, and still nursing my 4 year old!

Since I'm nursing two, I get so ravenous it's not even funny! Keeping a food diary has really helped me to see where my calories are coming from. However, the 1400 cals a day is a little low for me. I know, it doesn't sound low, it sure doesn't sound "low" to me, but my older child nurses 2-3 significant times per day, and my daughter several times per day, so there has to be more cals being used than if I was only nursing 1 child, right?

    Hey!

Congrats on tandem feeding the two!! I've a 7 month old boy (and 3 older ones that are past nursing!) I'd totally add extra cals for nursing the two of them!!! 500 for exclusive and maybe another 200-300 for the toddler if eating 2-3 times a day :)

I'm nursing my 7 month old 5 -7 times a day plus he eats about 3 meals by now (he's ravenous!!!) and I've put my cals to 400 now. Feels enough for me, so leaving it like that.

Feel free to add me as a friend, always love having other mums around!!

If you go under food and search for "breastfeeding" or "Breast feeding", you can find something that works for you. It adds in NEGATIVE cals to your food diary. I have a 3 week old, so I have mine set to give me 500 extra food calories. Why not start with that and go from there? If that's not enough, add more! :)

Yes, I would eat more than 1400 calories a day -- that does seem low while nursing two kiddos. I am nursing my almost 3 month old exclusively. I am eating between 1800 and 2000 calories a day. Feel free to add me! :)

Thanks so much for the replies! Its nice to have such nice people around. I get a LOT of criticism from family and people in general about nursing my 4 year old. I don't even do it in public, and sometimes you'd think I was depriving the child of "real" food, to some people!

Good luck to you all :)

    Hey,

Yes it's hard to even get people to be fine with breastfeeding at all. Some really are backwards. Personally, I always said I'd stop at 2 and a half. My babies had other ideas. 1st stopped at 14 months, 2nd at 9 months, 3rd at 8 months. Number 4 is 7 months now and shows no signs of wanting to lose the boob so happy days!!!

Did you see the new 'Times Magazine' cover photo? It's really counterproductive with the mum breastfeeding the 3 year old who's standing on a chair. Sensationalist if anything it opens up mums to ridicule who actually do breastfeed past the first few months :(

Anyway, came across this the other day and thought it's really good:

:) Hope you're all having a great weekend!!!!
