The Amazing Spider-Man - Thoughts?

Coming back to something I mentioned in another thread. A co-worker and I were discussing the upcoming Spider-man movie. He had asked why the "amazing" Spidey was different from the previous movies..

I like that in some ways they are going back to the original comic. Peter's intelligence and sarcastic comments seem to be emphasized more. Web shooters that were created by Peter; I never understand why they went with webbing being generated by his body in the Raimi films.

For a reboot that initially seemed too soon, I am actually looking forward to the new movie now. What say the rest of you? :)

I think I am looking forward to it as well, Spidey is one of my fave characters, I even wrote my final uni paper on Spider-Man so I have high hopes for a reboot especially as it implies they are putting things right.

Spidey has always been one of my favorite comic book characters. I'm not a big fan of the new costume but I'm keeping my mind open about the movie. I think the original series had plenty of life in it but I'm glad they're covering the Gwen Stacy chracter instead of Mary Jane. I think Dennis Leary is an interesting choice for Captain Stacy.

Tobey Maguire was never convincing as "Angry/Dark Spidey." Good riddance. All he ever does is act sad. And I thought Robo-Goblin was lame.

Anyways, Gwen is supposed to die during a fight with Green Goblin. I didn't see him in the preview so I assume she's going to make it to the next movie.

I agree completely with this I think I had a rant myself in the movie when they did the scene with MJ and they all survived - did you see the Spider-Man issue without words just the storyboards where Aunt M finds out Pete is Spidey, that was pretty poignant and the 9-11 commemoration as well they were both really good insights into Spidey but I am going off topic now

At first I was very dissapointed, I thought it looked terrible but with the 2 recent trailers...I have changed my mind! I think it looks awesome, just his reaction when the thug pulls a knife on him made me happy! The Toby Spidey wasen't enough of a smart *kitten* IMO lol. I also like the fact they decided to use the web shooters and the new suit, I really like the look of it!

I think the Sam Raimi / Tobey spideys are based on Marvel Earth-1610, whereas the Marvel universe we all know and love is Earth-616.

agreed. I couldnt stand the thought of ANOTHER Spiderman movie, still sore from the blight of Spiderman 3. But this one is ten times different, erasing everything that was done previously, and moving forward to the story that I knew when I was younger. Especially with the trailer the showed in The Avengers, this movie looks really really bad *kitten*. I always remembered Spiderman/Peter to be a smart *kitten*, and the first 3 Spiderman movies didnt really do it I think. That part of the trailer gives me hope that the entire movie will be a blast. At first, I was bummed that the Lizard had no snout, then after looking at it, I didnt mind it too much. Looks pretty cool.

As a non-comic book fan (so perhaps a more "mainstream" view), I do not see the point in making this movie (other than making $$ of course). The Batman reboot made sense because the other ones were more campy and fantastical whereas the Nolan Batman movies are gritty and realistic (-ish).

But this new Spider-Man looks like the old Spider-Man, at least to my untrained eyes. Perhaps it's a subtle enough difference that only comic book fans can appreciate. Or maybe I'm just a sour puss. But it just feels way too soon for a reboot, and it doesn't look like they are taking it in a drastically different direction (a la Batman Begins).

The reboot is actually a blend of the two comics with more emphasis on the Amazing Spider-Man. I am just hopeful they do a better job in defining, which it appears they do, who Parker is.

I like Tobey as Spiderman. (ok number 3 was the worst of the bunch). I remember reading somewhere that they were going to do a 4th but Rami had some falling out with the studio execs, dropped out, and then Maguire and Dunst soon followed. So now the reboot. I'll watch it. It looks like it will be good.

After the preview yesterday , my kids are very confused. They thought it was about Peter Parker's grandson and can't quite grasp the concept of a reboot :indifferent: :indifferent:

Not really excitied about it. Personally, I think the reboot is too soon. But with all the big superhero movies out...

I'm sick of the reboots. There are so many other superheroes they could be making movies of.
