There is this amazing boat that has been built out of pieces of wood (all with a story attached to them) donated by members of the public. So I was helping park cars at the launch last Monday in Thornham marina, near Emsworth, and got to see it... it is just beautiful - hockey sticks, a guitar, rolling pins, wooden spoons, and many other pieces, all finding a place round the boat. It came last Wednesday to Emsworth Quay, and then will set off on its voyage along the South Coast, overland to Milton Keynes, then down to Weymouth to be there during the Olympics... it is one of the few projects in the Cultural Olympiad which will carry on, as it will then be used by a trust probably to give sailing lessons to children, and other community uses.
It sails from Hayling Island on the 18th May, but will be in PORTSMOUTH at Gunwharf Quays from 23rd June to 1st July. If you can do go and see it... details on www.theboatproject.com
