I've borrowed a friend's shimmy workout dvd and I'll be giving it a go tonight. I've got another dvd by the same woman (Sarah Skinner) which was quite fun, so it could be entertaining.
What belly dance work out dvds do you like?
I have the following:
Serpentine : yoga and belly dance by Rachel Brice
Arms carriage and posture by Rachel Brice
Tribal Fusion by Sharon Kihara
and I've got Ariellah's dvd that I borrowed a while ago.

I have Serpentine, but I've only done one of the discs. I haven't done her yoga workout yet. How do you like it? The only other one I have is a belly dance with veil DVD, and it was helpful for some veil basics and cute little tricks.
Oooh, I got to study with Ariellah at the end of March. Her workshop was awesome! I'll have to check out the DVD!!:flowerforyou:0 -
I have a bunch of DVDs... the numbers just kinda snuck up on me. I tried to buy for beginner-intermediate with a couple of intermediate-advanced to work up to, but the levels are subjective and it's hard to guess from amazon reviews where a DVD falls, so I got a couple outside of my skill level. Maybe I will get to use them fully some day.
I got the Rachel Brice DVDs Serpentine, Arms and Posture, and Tribal Fusion. I love these, but Serpentine is still too much for me, though I can't wait to take another try with it. Arms and posture makes me feel so graceful, then I spaz out in my head and think I must look like "wacky wavy inflatable arm man." Tribal Fusion turns me into a puddle in a veeery good way.
I got Contemporary Bellydance w/ Ariellah too. It may be my favorite for sheer quality of instruction.
I got two Michelle Joyce DVDs-- Drills, Drills, Drills and Pop, Lock and Shimmy just to vary drills. They're all about building the muscle memory. Drills Drills Drills is for beginners, Pop, Lock and Shimmy is more advanced (guess which one I bought first :ohwell: )
I got Belly Dance Rhythms with Neon, but her dance style isn't really my favorite and much of the info on this DVD could be gleaned from Youtube. Still, the breakdown of middle eastern sounds is great for the musically challenged (me) and it's always nice to vary my DVD routine. I'm hoping some day to feel good enough to dance w/ an actual drummer. Just give me a year or three.
I got From a to Zoe with Zoey Jakes. I've only gone through a fraction of the DVD set--I need better basics before I work on most of the video.
And finally, today I got child care for my kid. Maybe now I can get my bellydance hour back and use this stuff!0 -
Izanami - I usually only do the yoga workout on the Serpentine dvd, I tend to run out of time. I've done the back bending stuff on the other dvd a couple of times, I can back bridge, but not very well and not for very long!
I love doing tribal fusion, but I feel like a total spaz when I'm practising it!0
