Carrying an iPhone battery extender...

Hi,

I use my iPhone for both iTunes and Sports-Tracker when I'm running, and I find that even when I leave with a full battery, anything over about 16 miles and my phone threatens to die on me. I've seen the battery extenders for iPhones, but the problem I can't figure out is that they lengthen the phone some, and as such won't fit into any of the belt or arm carriers that I've seen.

Has anyone solved this problem? (I know... run faster! I mean other than that.... )

In the settings, turn off all the background apps before you start your run. Location services is a serious drain. I'm assuming Sports Tracker is a GPS? You can leave location services on for that one and turn off everything else. Disable Wi-Fi.

Also, to ensure optimal battery performance, make sure you are power cycling your phone monthly.

Not sure which iPhone you have. I've got a 3S and I can run iTunes and a GPS app concurrently for 6 - 9 hours before I get the 20% warning. If I've recently power cycled, I get 9 hours.

Still getting only about 3 hours before the 20% warning goes off. That's fine for almost everything I do, but I'm not going to get a full 26.2 done w/in that battery life. Incentive to do more speed work I guess. :)

I emailed Mophie to see if they can recommend and armband for an extended phone or if they'd make one. no response yet.

Maybe Sports-Tracker just sucks the juice annoyingly. I'll try maybe using RunKeeper instead and see if I notice any difference.

Found more settings to turn off. I have 4 different mail accounts getting pushed. I'm going to turn those off as well and see if that helps fix....

I find that iSmoothRun uses less juice than RunKeeper.

I am wondering what to do this weekend also. I have been able to use iSmoothRun for three hours, but the area that I will be running in has little cell coverage, and I always find when I am down there that my battery runs down super fast, just with normal activities during the day. I may put it on airplane mode for the run and just use the accelerometer in iSmoothRun rather than the GPS.
