Hello MFP friends! From June 3rd-9th, I will be flying to California to participate in the AIDS Lifecycle. I will be riding for 7 days and 545 miles –from San Francisco to Los Angeles- helping to raise funds to spread awareness and fight HIV and AIDS.
As part of my job hosting conferences for PeaceJam, it is my great privilege to work with some amazing Nobel Peace Laureates. One of those laureates, Desmond Tutu from South Africa, has asked us and the youth of PeaceJam to focus on halting the spread of global disease. He warns us that HIV and AIDS is a worldwide epidemic that knows no border, ethnic group, gender, or sexual orientation. It destroys everything and everyone it touches, spreading quickly around the world. I was shocked to find out that in the US alone, over 33 million people are living with HIV and AIDS.
A few years ago, I took a speech class at Florida State University where we listened to Mary Fisher's groundbreaking speech from the 1992 Republican National Convention, "A Whisper of AIDS". She shocked the nation when she said this about HIV & AIDS:
"We have helped it along.
We have killed each other with our ignorance, our prejudice, and our silence.
We may take refuge in our stereotypes, but we cannot hide there long,
because HIV asks only one thing of those it attacks.
Are you human?"
Her bravery and her urgent message completely changed the way I viewed the AIDS epidemic. However, after hearing her dire call for action- I did not act. Like many people, I sat on the sidelines... until now. I'm not going to stand on the sidelines anymore, and I hope you'll join me.
Please visit my donation page and make a gift today to help me fight HIV & AIDS. Just visit my website at www.jaimebayo.com to support me by either donating directly to the AIDS LifeCycle or sponsoring me as an individual rider. I only have a few more days to raise over 3,000 dollars to be able to participate. Every donation helps to make my participation in this life-changing event possible! Thank you in advance for supporting me- I am so excited to have you on my side! By doing so, you'll be helping to save lives. I look forward to your support!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I'll be sure to keep you informed about my progress!
