I just wanted to say hi! I've done 3 sprint tris in 2009-2010. I was on hiatus for a while where I lost a part of the confidence I gained doing triathlons. However, once I decided to get over the "past" and get over the fact that indeed I did gain so much weight back, I signed up for my first Olympic distance which will be in September.

I re-started my exercise program in March 2012 and last week, I started my 18 weeks of hard-core training. Wow, it's harder than I remember (but I'm doing a longer race as well). Last night, it took mental strength to finish my long bike. I was utterly spent. Luckily, I have the family support I need to do the time and I am enjoying checking off exercise on my to-do list. I am eating and exercising in the ways that I want to maintain for a lifetime. I am in no rush this time and I believe I will achieve my goals in 120 weeks. I weightlift too.

I've enjoyed reading the threads in here and especially the support you have given to newbies. It is so true....Even though I know I was so nervous standing in the dark, barefooted, with my goggles and my tight spandex, I barely remember that. What I remember are the nice athletes that cheered me on as they passed me on the bike.....and my husband saying, "it took me forever to catch you"....as he sped on by me :) And I still remember the runner who said that she remembers me because I passed her on the bike "so stop walking and RUN GIRL"!

Anyways, glad I found this group!

    Hi All

Last year was a really great year for me. I was able to lose about 40 pounds, participated in my very first triathlon, WITH my daughter. THAT was an AWESOME day! However, shortly after that my job changed, stress increased and so did my eatting and consequently my weight went back up.

I keep starting, but by end of day have given up, or it seems I cannot get more than 3 days into new regime. :( I WANT BACK TO MY TRIATHLON SELF OF LAST YEAR!! but am having an awful time starting over after this weight gain. I don't know how much I have gained..haven't had the courage to get on the scale... I am resolved to take my bitter pill today and get on scale. I am not sure if that is going to help or put me in more of a landslide. So my truth for today is: I haven't been to gym in months, my eatting is high carb, high sugary binge type foods, I had to buy my first XL pants since phenomenal weight loss a year ago, and I am so sad over all this.

I did take a huge step and rejoin my triathlon training group, it was hard to go back after the weight gain. My goal is to enter the Lake Worth Tropical Triathlon in September.
I am glad to find this group on MFP.

As someone who just signed up for my first sprint, I am encouraged and a bit worried by by your ladies posts. :) I have lost about 40 pounds since October. I started C25K then, finished that Jan 1, did a 10k 3/31. Since then I've started eating more and doing more strength training, and I'm really happy with the results showing up in my body. I wanted to do this sprint, and I've just started this week to get in some the extra cardio. My official training will begin in 2 wks. I'm sure I can do it, but I want to continue to weight train and I hope like HELL that I don't EVER gain this weight back! Good luck to you ladies in getting back into it. I look forward to sharing success stories, as it looks like we all race in September. :)

This is a great thread & welcome! I am one of the newbies who has received a ton of support here. I plan to do my first Sprint in about 3 weeks (June 10). I'm nervous, but I can't WAIT!

I would love to do a half iron man in 2013 but 2014 may be a more realistic goal.... will see how long it takes me just to get back in shape, I did finish an iron man in 2001 but have since fallen way out of shape . I hit 206 lbs in Jan, I began my weight loss journey as my new years resolution, so far have lost 24 lbs, bought a stationary bike and have been riding regularly and did a 17 mile ride last week outside on my husbands mt bike ...Just signed up for a 50 mile bike ride June 10, got my tri bike out and dusting it off...lol

Running used to be my strength. But now I would have a hard time running a mile......

I am anemic and may need to get my iron levels more stable to run will have to check with doc...

Y'all will be surprised at how quick your fitness levels will advance if you stay consistent in your training. Every single person here could do a half ironman the spring of next year at the latest. Find a plan, execute the plan, and I promise you'll cross the finish line.

A bike trainer and some Sufferfest or Spinervals vids is a great way to spend a winter.
